What is claimed is: 1. A device comprising: a near field transducer, the near field transducer capable of coupling incident light to surface plasmons, the near field transducer comprising gold (Au) and at least two other secondary atoms, the at least two other secondary atoms selected from: indium (In), tin (Sn), holmium (Ho), lutetium (Lu), praseodymium (Pr), scandium (Sc), barium (Ba), cesium (Cs), dysprosium (Dy), europium (Eu), rubidium (Rb), terbium (Tb), gadolinium (Gd), samarium (Sm), thallium (Tl), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), hafnium (Hf), erbium (Er), lithium (Li), sodium (Na), strontium (Sr), calcium (Ca), yttrium (Y), thorium (Th), thulium (Tm), ytterbium (Yb), cerium (Ce), lanthanum (La), potassium (K), mercury (Hg), or combinations thereof. 2. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the NFT comprises about 0.1 atomic percent to about 50 atomic percent in total of the at least two secondary atoms. 3. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the NFT comprises about 0.1 atomic percent to about 5 atomic percent in total of the at least two secondary atoms. 4. The apparatus according to claim 1 further comprising an energy source. 5. The device according to claim 1 further comprising a light source and a waveguide. 6. The device according to claim 1 further comprising at least one actuator arm having a first and a second end; at least one head, wherein each arm has a head at the first end thereof and wherein each head comprises a light source and the NFT. 7. The device according to claim 6 further comprising a magnetic reader; and a magnetic writer, and wherein the light source and the near field transducer are configured to transmit light from the light source to the near field transducer in order to assist the magnetic writer with writing.
