Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An oral care implement having a multi-component handle. The oral care implement may include a head and a handle. The handle may have a front surface, a rear surface, and opposing first and second lateral surfaces. The handle may include an elongated handle body, a grip cover, and a transparent component. The elongated handle body and the grip cover may be opaque. The elongated handle body may form a portion of the front surface of the handle and the grip cover may form a portion of the rear surface of the handle. The transparent component may form a portion of each of the first and second lateral surfaces of the handle. Thus, the transparent component may form a window through the lateral surfaces of the handle.

What is claimed is: 1. An oral care implement comprising: a handle comprising: an exposed outer surface comprising a front surface, a rear surface opposite the front surface, a first lateral surface, and a second lateral surface opposite the first lateral surface; an elongated handle body formed of an opaque rigid material, the elongated handle body forming at least a portion of the front surface; a grip cover formed of a resilient material, the grip cover forming at least a portion of the rear surface, at least a portion of a proximal end of the handle, and at least a portion of the front surface of the exposed outer surface of the handle; and a transparent component forming at least a portion of each of the first and second lateral surfaces, the transparent component forming a window through the handle from the first lateral surface to the second lateral surface. 2. The oral care implement according to claim 1 wherein the elongated handle body and the grip cover each form a portion of the front surface and a portion of the rear surface. 3. The oral care implement according to claim 1 wherein the handle extends along a longitudinal axis and comprises a proximal section, a middle section, and a neck section, and wherein within the proximal section the transparent component has a first maximum width measured transverse to the longitudinal axis and the elongated handle body has a second maximum width measured transverse to the longitudinal axis, the first maximum width being greater than the second maximum width. 4. The oral care implement according to claim 1 wherein the handle extends along a longitudinal axis and comprises a proximal section, a middle section, and a neck section, and wherein the opaque rigid material of the elongated handle body forms an entirety of the neck section. 5. The oral care implement according to claim 4 further comprising a grip body forming a portion of each of the front and rear surfaces of the handle. 6. The oral care implement according to claim 5 wherein the grip body is located entirely within the middle section. 7. The oral care implement according to claim 1 wherein the handle extends along a longitudinal axis and comprises a proximal section, a middle section, and a neck section, the handle comprising a grip body constructed of a resilient material located within the middle section, and wherein front and rear surfaces of the transparent component are covered by at least one of the elongated handle body and the grip cover along the proximal section, and wherein the portions of the first and second lateral surfaces that are formed by the transparent component are elongated in a direction of the longitudinal axis of the handle. 8. The oral care implement according to claim 1 wherein the grip cover is opaque. 9. The oral care implement according to claim 1 further comprising a head coupled to the handle, the head having a front surface and a rear surface opposite the front surface, and a plurality of tooth cleaning elements extending from the front surface of the head. 10. The oral care implement according to claim 9 further comprising a soft tissue cleaner on the rear surface of the head. 11. An oral care implement comprising: a handle comprising: a proximal end, a distal end, a proximal section, a middle section, and a neck section, the proximal section extending from the proximal end of the handle to the middle section and the neck section extending from the middle section to the distal end of the handle; and a transparent component constructed of a first rigid material, an opaque elongated handle body constructed of a second rigid material, a grip cover constructed of a resilient material, and a grip body constructed of a resilient material, the grip body located within the middle section; wherein the transparent component comprises a front surface, a rear surface opposite the front surface, a first lateral surface, and a second lateral surface opposite the first lateral surface; and wherein within the proximal section of the handle, the front and rear surfaces of the transparent component are covered by at least one of the elongated handle body and the grip cover and the first and second lateral surfaces of the transparent component are exposed, thereby forming a window through the handle from a first lateral surface of the handle to a second lateral surface of the handle; and wherein the grip cover forms the proximal end of the handle. 12. The oral care implement according to claim 11 wherein the handle extends along a longitudinal axis from the proximal end to the distal end, and wherein within the proximal section of the handle, the transparent component has a first maximum width measured transverse to the longitudinal axis, the opaque elongated handle body has a second maximum width measured transverse to the longitudinal axis, and the grip cover has a third maximum width measured transverse to the longitudinal axis, the first maximum width being greater than each of the second and third maximum widths. 13. The oral care implement according to claim 11 wherein the grip cover forms a portion of a front surface of the handle, a portion of a rear surface of the handle, and the proximal end of the handle, and wherein within the proximal section of the handle, the opaque elongated handle body and the grip cover collectively form an entirety of a front surface of the handle and an entirety of a rear surface of the handle. 14. The oral care implement according to claim 11 wherein the opaque elongated handle body comprises a rear surface that is in direct surface contact with the front surface of the transparent component and an opposite front surface, and wherein the grip cover overlies at least a portion of the front surface of the opaque elongated handle body. 15. An oral care implement comprising: a head having tooth cleaning elements extending therefrom; a handle coupled to the head, the handle having a front surface, a rear surface, and first and second lateral surfaces, the handle comprising: a first portion formed of an opaque rigid material; a second portion formed of an opaque resilient material; and a third portion formed of a transparent rigid material; and wherein the first portion is located on the front surface of the handle, the second portion is located on the rear surface of the handle, at least a portion of the front surface of the handle, and a proximal end of the handle, and the third portion is located on the first and second lateral surfaces of the handle. 16. The oral care implement according to claim 15 wherein the transparent rigid material forms a window through the handle from the first lateral surface to the second lateral surface. 17. The oral care implement according to claim 15 wherein the handle extends along a longitudinal axis and comprises a proximal section, a middle section, and a neck section located between the middle section and the head, and wherein the first, second, and third portions of the handle are located along the proximal and middle sections of the handle. 18.
