Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An oral care implement is provided. The implement comprises: a handle having a core ( 118 ) comprising recycled material and a cover ( 112 ) enveloping the core ( 118 ); and a head comprising at least one cleaning element, the head ( 120 ) being connected to, or connectable to, the handle. Also provided is a method of manufacturing an oral care implement, the method comprising: providing recycled material; and enveloping the recycled material with cover material to form a handle of the oral care implement, the handle having a core comprising the recycled material and a cover comprising the cover material enveloping the core.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of manufacturing an oral care implement comprising a handle and a head, the method comprising: forming a core of the handle from a recycled material; and surrounding an entirety of the recycled material of the core with a cover material so that no portion of the core is exposed, the cover material forming the head and an exposed portion of the handle of the oral care implement; wherein surrounding the entirety of the recycled material of the core comprises overmolding the core with the cover material. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises providing the head with at least one cleaning element. 3. The method of claim 1 , comprising forming the recycled material into a shape to create the core. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the forming comprises injecting the recycled material into a cavity of a mold in a flowable state and allowing the recycled material to harden. 5. The method of claim 3 , comprising one or both of forming at least one part of the core that is hollow and forming one or more holes through the core. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein surrounding the entirety of the recycled material of the core comprises: covering the core with the cover material while the cover material is flowable and while the core is spaced from walls of a cavity of a mold using one or more spacers in contact with a surface of the core; and withdrawing the one or more spacers from the surface of the core while the cover material is flowable. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cover material comprises a first material and a second material; and wherein surrounding the entirety of the recycled material of the core comprises covering one or more first parts of the core with the first material and covering one or more second parts of the core with the second material. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein surrounding the entirety of the recycled material of the core comprises covering the one or more first parts of the core with the first material while the one or more second parts of the core are concealed, exposing the one or more second parts of the core, and then covering the one or more second parts of the core with the second material. 9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the second material is the same material as the first material. 10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the second material is different material to the first material. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first material comprises a polymer and the second material comprises an elastomer. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recycled material comprises recycled plastic material. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the recycled plastic material comprises post-consumer recycled plastic material. 14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recycled material comprises two or more different materials. 15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing the recycled material to form the core by melting pellets or flakes of recycled thermoplastic material. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the providing the recycled material comprises granulating one or more thermoplastic structures to create the pellets or flakes of recycled plastic material. 17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cover material is free of post-consumer recycled material. 18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cover material comprises virgin food-grade plastic. 19. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cover material comprises a cellulose polymer. 20. A method of manufacturing an oral care implement comprising a handle and a head, the method comprising: forming a core of the handle from a recycled material comprising forming the recycled material into a shape to create the core; and surrounding an entirety of the recycled material of the core with a cover material so that no portion of the core is exposed, the cover material forming the head and an exposed portion of the handle of the oral care implement; wherein the forming comprises extruding the recycled material. 21. A method of manufacturing an oral care implement comprising a handle and a head, the method comprising: forming a core of the handle from a recycled material comprising forming the recycled material into a shape to create the core; and surrounding an entirety of the recycled material of the core with a cover material so that no portion of the core is exposed, the cover material forming the head and an exposed portion of the handle of the oral care implement; wherein the recycled material is foamed. 22. A method of manufacturing an oral care implement comprising a handle and a head, the method comprising: forming a core of the handle from a recycled material; and surrounding an entirety of the recycled material of the core with a cover material so that no portion of the core is exposed, the cover material forming the head and an exposed portion of the handle of the oral care implement; wherein surrounding the entirety of the recycled material of the core comprises surrounding the recycled material of the core with the cover material while the recycled material of the core is in a flowable state.
