We claim: 1. A golf club putter head, comprising: a club body including a front portion, a rear portion disposed at a centrally located rear area of the club body, a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion opposite a sole portion, and a main body portion, the front portion including a face portion, wherein the main body portion extending from the front portion toward the rear portion, the main body portion having opposed sides extending from the front portion to the rear portion, the front portion having a first lateral width greater than a second lateral width of the rear portion; a heel side outboard portion connected to the main body portion, and extending rearward and heel-ward from the main body portion; a toe side outboard portion connected to the main body portion, and extending rearward and toe-ward from the main body portion; a heel side weight connected to the heel side outboard portion and a toe side weight connected to the toe side outboard portion; wherein the heel side outboard portion and the toe side outboard portion extend rearwardly at least as far as the rear portion, the heel side outboard portion and toe side outboard portion defining a third lateral width, wherein the heel side outboard portion and toe side outboard portion each have respective flange portions which are joined to the main body portion at a location between the front and rear portions; and the toe side and heel side outboard portions each have an increased thickness away from the main body portion proximate to at least one of the toe side weight and heel side weight, and a reduced thickness proximate to where each flange joins the main body portion. 2. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein the main body portion has maximum lateral width greater than the first lateral width of the front portion. 3. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein the toe side outboard portion and heel side outboard portion are each integral extensions of the main body portion. 4. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein the face portion includes a face insert and the face insert is a different material than the face portion. 5. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein the third lateral width is greater than both the first lateral width and second lateral width. 6. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein the main body portion has a plurality of openings through the main body portion. 7. The golf club putter head of claim 6 wherein the openings include a heel side opening proximate to the heel portion and front portion, a toe side opening proximate to the toe portion and front opening, and a rear opening proximate to the rear portion. 8. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein the putter head has a center of gravity (CG) located rearward of a geometric center point of the putter head. 9. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein at least a substantial portion of both the heel and toe side outboard portions are located rearward of a center of gravity (CG) of the putter head. 10. The golf club putter head of claim 1 wherein the golf club putter head including a center of gravity (CG) having a CG X-axis, a CG Z-axis, and a CG Y-axis; wherein a moment of inertia of the club head about a CG z-axis is between about 2,000 g·cm 2 and about 14,000 g·cm 2 ; wherein a moment inertia of the club head about a CG x-axis is between about 1,000 g·cm 2 and about 10,000 g·cm 2 ; wherein a moment inertia of the club head about a CG y-axis is between about 1,000 g·cm 2 and about 10,000 g·cm 2 . 11. A golf club putter head, comprising: a main body having a front portion for striking a golf ball, central rear portion, opposed heel and toe sides extending from the front portion to the rear portion, and a top portion opposite a sole portion; a heel side outboard weight extension extending from the main body; a toe side outboard weight extension extending from the main body; the heel side and toe side outboard weight extensions being located in opposite rearmost corners of the putter head such that the weight extensions extend rearwardly at least as far as the rear portion of the main body and extend laterally outwardly beyond the main body in respective heelward and toeward directions; the heel side outboard weight extensions defining at least one heel-side weight recess to receive at least one heel-side removable weight, the toe side outboard weight extension defining at least one toe-side weight recess to receive at least one toe-side removable weight, each weight recess being located rearwardly of a center of gravity of the putter head; the heel side and toe side outboard weight extensions each having flange portions proximate to the main body and extending outwardly from the main body such that the heel side and toe side outboard weight extensions are positioned in rearwardmost and outwardmost corners of the putter head; and each weight recess is located in a thickened portion of one of the heel side and toe side outboard weight extensions and each flange portion is located at least in part in a thinner portion of one of the heel side and toe side outboard weight extensions, the thinner portion having a thickness less than the thickened portion. 12. The golf club putter head of claim 11 wherein the toe side and heel side outboard weight extensions are each integral extensions of at least part of the main body. 13. The golf club putter head of claim 11 wherein the putter head has a center of gravity (CG) located rearward of a geometric center point of the putter head. 14. The golf club putter head of claim 11 wherein at least a substantial portion of both the heel and toe side outboard weight extensions are located rearward of a center of gravity (CG) of the putter head. 15. A golf club putter head, comprising: a main body having a front portion with a face for striking a golf ball, a central rear portion and opposed heel and toe sides which extend from the front portion to the central rear portion and converge toward one another as they join the central rear portion, the front portion having a first lateral width that is greater than a second lateral width of the central rear portion; a heel side outboard extension extending heelwardly and rearwardly from the main body; a toe side outboard extension extending toewardly and rearwardly from the main body; the heel side outboard extension and toe side outboard extension each extending rearwardly at least as far as the central rear portion and defining a third lateral width; the heel side outboard extension and toe side outboard extension each defining a recess for receiving a weight, each recess being located rearwardly of a center of gravity of the putter head; and the heel side outboard extension and toe side outboard extension each have a thickened portion where the recess is located and a thinner portion proximate to where each outboard extension joins the main body. 16.
