Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system comprising an implement and dispenser containing a fluid detachably coupled to the implement. In one embodiment, the dispenser has a housing that includes a reservoir containing a fluid and an actuator for dispensing the fluid from the dispenser. The dispenser is at least partially located within the cavity of the handle. The housing of the dispenser has at least one protuberance that protrudes radially beyond an outer surface of the handle thereby forming a ridge that a user can grip to remove the dispenser from the cavity of the handle.

What is claimed is: 1. A system comprising: an implement having a handle that defines a cavity having an opening at a proximal end of the handle; a dispenser comprising a housing having a reservoir containing a fluid and an actuator for dispensing the fluid from the housing, at least a portion of the dispenser being located within the cavity of the handle; and the housing having at least one protuberance that protrudes radially beyond an outer surface of the handle, the at least one protuberance forming a ridge that a user can grip to remove the dispenser from the cavity of the handle; wherein interaction between the at least one protuberance of the housing and a portion of the handle of the implement prevents actuation of the actuator. 2. The system according to claim 1 wherein the handle extends from the proximal end to a distal end along a first longitudinal axis, the handle comprising at least one recess extending axially from a proximal edge of the handle towards the distal end of the handle. 3. The system according to claim 2 wherein the at least one protuberance of the housing of the dispenser nests within the at least one recess of the handle of the implement. 4. The system according to claim 3 wherein a distal edge of the at least one protuberance protrudes from the outer surface of the handle and forms the ridge. 5. The system according to claim 4 wherein the distal edge of the at least one protuberance faces away from the proximal end of the handle. 6. The system according to claim 4 wherein the housing extends along a second longitudinal axis and comprises two of the protuberances that are circumferentially spaced apart from one another and wherein the handle comprises two of the recesses that are circumferentially spaced apart from one another, and wherein each of the protuberances of the housing nests within one of the recesses of the handle. 7. The system according to claim 1 wherein the housing of the dispenser extends from a proximal end to a distal end along a longitudinal axis, and wherein the actuator comprises the at least one protuberance and a dome portion, the dome portion protruding through the opening of the cavity and forming the proximal end of the housing and the at least one protuberance extending axially from the dome portion towards the distal end of the housing. 8. The system according to claim 7 wherein an upper edge of the dome portion of the actuator is flush with a proximal edge of the handle that defines the opening of the cavity. 9. The system according to claim 1 wherein the implement is an oral care implement comprising the handle and a head and having tooth cleaning elements extending from the head. 10. The system according to claim 9 wherein the fluid is an oral care fluid. 11. The system according to claim 1 wherein the actuator of the dispenser protrudes from the cavity of the handle. 12. The system according to claim 1 wherein the cavity extends along a longitudinal axis of the handle and terminates at the opening at the proximal end of the handle, the opening forming a passageway into the cavity through which the portion of the dispenser can be slid, the actuator forming a longitudinal extension of the handle. 13. The system according to claim 12 wherein the actuator comprises a dome portion, the dome portion forming the longitudinal extension of the handle. 14. The system according to claim 1 wherein the housing of the dispenser extends from a proximal end to a distal end along a longitudinal axis, the actuator located at the proximal end of the housing and further comprising an applicator located at the distal end of the housing, and wherein actuation of the actuator relative to the housing dispenses the fluid from the reservoir to the applicator. 15. A system comprising: an implement having a handle that defines a cavity; a dispenser that is detachably coupled to the implement between a storage state in which a portion of the dispenser is located within the cavity of the handle and an application state in which the dispenser is separated from the handle of the implement, the dispenser comprising a housing having a reservoir for containing a fluid; and the housing having at least one member having a distal edge that protrudes radially beyond an outer surface of the handle to facilitate removal of the dispenser from the cavity; wherein the handle has a proximal edge, and wherein the distal edge of the at least one member is adjacent to a portion of the proximal edge of the handle, the handle comprising a recess extending axially from the proximal edge of the handle, the member of the housing nesting within the recess and an edge of the recess forming the portion of the proximal edge of the handle; and wherein relative motion between the at least one member and the housing causes the dispenser to dispense the fluid, the recess of the handle preventing relative motion between the at least one member and the housing. 16. The system according to claim 15 wherein the handle extends from a proximal end to a distal end along a longitudinal axis, the recess extending axially from the proximal edge of the handle towards the distal end of the handle. 17. A system comprising: an implement comprising a cavity formed therein; a dispenser comprising a reservoir containing a fluid and an actuator for dispensing the fluid from the dispenser, the dispenser extending from a proximal end to a distal end and having a length measured between the proximal and distal ends; the dispenser alterable between: (i) a storage state in which a first portion of the dispenser is located within the cavity and a second portion of the dispenser protrudes from the cavity; and (ii) an application state in which the dispenser is removed from the cavity and separated from the implement; and wherein the implement prevents actuation of the actuator when the dispenser is in the storage state.
