Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An adapter has two conductors each with a U-shaped bend forming upper longer legs and lower shorter legs. The conductors face each other with the longer legs linearly aligned with each other and the shorter legs aligned with each other, thereby forming a first gap between the longer legs and a second gap between the shorter legs. The first gap is substantially smaller than the second gap, so that an electrical package can be placed across the first gap to contact the two upper longer legs, while the two shorter legs are spaced further apart to span a larger gap between conductors of a connector. Thus, the adapter enables the electrical package to be connected to conductors having a gap that is larger than the electrical package.

The invention claimed is: 1. An adapter comprising: a housing defining an interior space; a first elongated contact member fixed to the housing and including: a first end configured to mate with a first contact of a first electronic component; a second end configured to mate with a first contact of a second electronic component; and a first curved section located between the first end and the second end such that the first end and the second end are parallel to each other and offset by the first curved section, wherein the first end and the second end of said first elongated contact member extend inwardly from the first curved section; and a second elongated contact member fixed to the housing and including: a first end configured to mate with a second contact of the first electronic component; a second end configured to mate with a second contact of the second electronic component, wherein the second end of the first elongated contact member and the second end of the second elongated contact member are co-linear, aligned with each other, and separated from each other by a gap; and a second curved section located between the first end and the second end of the second elongated contact member such that the first end and the second end of the second elongated contact member are substantially parallel to each other and offset by the second curved section, and wherein the first end and the second end of the second elongated contact member extend inwardly from the curved section. 2. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein the first electronic component comprises a signal conductor having a first conductor segment having the first contact and a second conductor segment having the second contact, wherein the first conductor segment is separated from the second conductor segment to form a gap therebetween. 3. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein said first and second curved sections each form J-shapes whereby the first end of the first elongated contact member and the first end of the second elongated contact member are co-linear and the second end of the first elongated contact member and the second end of the second elongated contact member are co-linear. 4. The adapter of claim 1 , further comprising encapsulant filling at least part of the interior space. 5. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein the housing comprises two lateral end walls and two longitudinal side walls. 6. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein the second end of the first elongated contact member is longer than the first end of the first elongated contact member. 7. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein the second end of the second elongated contact member is longer than the first end of the second elongated contact member. 8. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein the first end of the first elongated contact member and the first end of the second elongated contact member are higher than the second end of the first elongated contact member and the second end of the second elongated contact member. 9. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein a length of the curved section of the first elongated contact member and a length of the curved section of the second elongated contact member are half a height of the second electronic component. 10. An adapter comprising: a housing defining an interior space; a first elongated contact member fixed to the housing and including: a first end configured to mate with a first contact of a first electronic component; a second end configured to mate with a first contact of a second electronic component; and a curved section located between the first end and the second end such that the first end and the second end are parallel to each other and offset by the curved section; and a second elongated contact member fixed to the housing and including: a first end configured to mate with a second contact of the first electronic component; a second end configured to mate with a second contact of the second electronic component, wherein the second end of the first elongated contact member and the second end of the second elongated contact member are co-linear, aligned with each other, and separated from each other by a gap; and a curved section located between the first end and the second end such that the first end and the second end are substantially parallel to each other and offset by the curved section; wherein a width of the first end of the first elongated contact member is wider than a width of the curved section and a width of the second end of the first elongated contact member. 11. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein the second end of the first elongated contact member and the second end of the second elongated contact member are contained by the housing. 12. The adapter of claim 1 , wherein the housing includes a first slot for the first end of the first elongated contact member and a second slot for the first end of the second elongated contact member such that the first end of the first elongated contact member exits the housing and mates with the first contact of the first electronic component and the first end of the second elongated contact member exits the housing and mates with the second contact of the first electronic component. 13. The adapter of claim 1 , further comprising the second electronic component. 14.
