Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In a method for treating soil at a work site, a first pressure application tool is connected to a base unit and moved relative thereto along a first area of the work site adjacent a structure and operated to inject soil treatment down into the soil along the first area of the work site. A second pressure application tool is interchanged with the first pressure application tool and moved relative to the base unit along a second area of the work site adjacent the structure and different from the first area of the work site. The second pressure application tool is operated to apply soil treatment to the soil along the second area of the work site.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of treating soil adjacent a structure at a work site using an apparatus including a first pressure injection tool, a second pressure application tool, and a fluid delivery device, said method comprising: moving the first pressure injection tool along a first area of the work site adjacent the structure, wherein the first pressure injection tool is in fluid communication with the fluid delivery device in a first pressure mode of the apparatus; operating the first pressure injection tool with the apparatus in the first pressure mode to inject soil treatment down into the soil along said first area of the work site; switching the apparatus between the first pressure mode and a second pressure mode, wherein, in the second pressure mode of the apparatus, the second pressure application tool is in fluid communication with the fluid delivery device and the first pressure injection tool is disconnected from the fluid delivery device; moving the second pressure application tool along a second area of the work site adjacent the structure; and operating the second pressure application tool with the apparatus in the second pressure mode to apply soil treatment to the soil along the second area of the work site. 2. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the second pressure application tool has an outlet through which soil treatment is delivered from the second pressure application tool, the step of moving the second pressure application tool along the second area of the work site comprising intermittently inserting at least a portion of the second pressure application tool into the ground at spaced apart locations along the second work area such that upon each insertion the outlet of the second pressure application tool is below a surface of the ground. 3. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the second pressure application tool has an outlet through which soil treatment is delivered from the second pressure application tool, the step of moving the second pressure application tool along the second area of the work site comprising digging at least one of a hole and a trench in the ground at the second work area and inserting at least a portion of the second pressure application tool into said at least one of a hole and a trench such that the outlet of the second pressure application tool is below the ground surface prior to operating the second pressure application tool. 4. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the step of operating the first pressure injection tool with the apparatus in the first pressure mode to inject soil treatment down into the soil comprises operating the first pressure injection tool with the apparatus in the first pressure mode to inject soil treatment down into the soil at a first injection site of the first area, stopping the flow of soil treatment from the first pressure injection tool while moving the first pressure injection tool to a second injection site of the first area, and operating the first pressure injection tool with the apparatus in the first pressure mode to inject soil treatment down into the soil at the second injection site of the first area. 5. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the work site comprises substantially the entire perimeter about the structure. 6. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the soil treatment applied by one or more of the first pressure injection tool and the second pressure application tool comprises a termiticide. 7. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the first area comprises a plurality of discrete areas of the work site. 8. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the second area comprises a plurality of discrete areas of the work site. 9. The method set forth in claim 1 further comprising determining which area of the work site is suitable for treatment using the first pressure injection tool so as to define said first area of the work site, and which area of the work site is unsuitable for treatment using the first pressure injection tool so as to define said second area of the work site, said determining being a function of one or more of the type of soil at the work site and the ground surface at the work site. 10. The method set forth in claim 9 wherein said second area of the work site comprises one or more of a highly compacted soil and a material covering the soil. 11. The method set forth in claim 1 further comprising, prior to moving the first pressure injection tool along the first area of the work site, the step of connecting the first pressure injection tool to the fluid delivery device in fluid communication therewith such that the first pressure injection tool is positionable relative to the fluid delivery device, the step of operating the first pressure injection tool to inject soil treatment down into the soil comprising operating the fluid delivery device to deliver fluid at a first pressure to the first pressure injection tool, and wherein the step of switching the apparatus between the first pressure mode and a second pressure mode comprises, prior to moving the second pressure application tool along a second area of the work site, disconnecting the first pressure injection tool from the fluid delivery device and connecting the second pressure application tool to the fluid delivery device in fluid communication therewith such that the second pressure application tool is positionable relative to the fluid delivery device, the step of operating the second pressure application tool to apply soil treatment comprising operating the fluid delivery device to deliver fluid to the second pressure application tool at a pressure substantially lower than the first pressure of the fluid delivered to the first pressure injection tool. 12. The method set forth in claim 11 further comprising bleeding pressure from the first pressure injection tool prior to disconnecting the injection tool from the fluid delivery device. 13. The method set forth in claim 1 wherein the second area of the work site at least in part overlaps the first area of the work site. 14. The method set forth in claim 13 wherein the step of operating the first pressure injection tool comprises operating the first pressure injection tool to inject soil treatment down into the soil to an injection depth below the surface of the soil, the step of moving a second pressure application tool along a second area of the work site comprising moving the second pressure application tool along a second area overlapping the first area of the work site, the step of operating the second pressure application tool comprising inserting the second pressure application tool down into the soil below the injection depth and operating the second pressure application tool to apply soil treatment to the soil below the injection depth. 15. A method of treating soil adjacent a structure at a work site using an apparatus including a first pressure injection tool, a second pressure application tool, and a fluid delivery device, said method comprising: connecting the first pressure injection tool to the fluid delivery device in fluid communication therewith such that the first pressure injection tool is positionable relative to the fluid delivery device; operating the fluid delivery device with the apparatus in a first pressure mode to deliver fluid at a first pressure to the first pressure injection apparatus, wherein the first pressure injection tool is in fluid communication with the fluid delivery device in a first pressure mode of the apparatus; injecting soil treatment down into the soil from the first pressure injection tool; disconnecting the first pressure in
