Disclosed is a rotary actuated axial clamp that includes a primary fixture, having a rotatable primary clamp, having primary clamp fingers that engage secondary clamp fingers on a stationary secondary clamp. The primary fixture is attached to a positioner, while the secondary fixture is attached to the work piece. Different secondary fixtures can be utilized to fit the shape and size of the work piece, while maintaining a secondary clamp that is able to engage the primary clamp of the primary fixture. The primary fixture can consequently be utilized with numerous different work pieces having different shapes and sizes by simply modifying a secondary fixture to adapt to the size and shape of the work piece. Roller engagement of the primary clamp and secondary clamp reduces the force required to clamp and unclamp the primary and secondary fixtures. This reduces problems associated with attaching a work piece to a positioner.

What is claimed is: 1. A clamp for clamping a work piece to a positioner, comprising: a primary fixture comprising: a primary fixture plate; and a primary clamp that is rotatably attached to said primary fixture plate, wherein the primary clamp comprises a plurality of primary clamp fingers separated by openings between the primary clamp fingers; and an actuator coupled to said primary clamp and said primary fixture plate that rotates said primary clamp between an open position and a closed position; and a secondary fixture comprising: a secondary clamp comprising a plurality of secondary clamp fingers separated by openings between the secondary clamp fingers, wherein the primary clamp fingers pass through the openings between the secondary clamp fingers as the secondary fixture is coupled to the primary fixture, and wherein upon the actuator rotating the primary clamp to the closed position, the primary clamp fingers engage the secondary clamp fingers. 2. The clamp of claim 1 , wherein the primary fixture further comprises positioner rollers that determine a correct orientation of the secondary fixture when coupled to the primary fixture. 3. The clamp of claim 1 , further comprising rollers disposed on the primary clamp fingers that engage the secondary clamp fingers. 4. A clamp for clamping a work piece to a positioner, comprising: a primary fixture comprising: a primary fixture plate; a primary clamp that is rotatably attached to said primary fixture plate, wherein the primary clamp comprises a plurality of primary clamp fingers separated by openings between the primary clamp fingers; and an actuator coupled to said primary clamp that rotates said primary clamp between an open position and a closed position; and a secondary fixture comprising: a secondary clamp comprising a plurality of secondary clamp fingers separated by openings between the secondary clamp fingers; and a respective clamp pad disposed on each of the plurality of secondary clamp fingers, wherein upon the actuator rotating the primary clamp to the closed position, the primary clamp fingers engage the clamp pads on the secondary clamp fingers. 5. The clamp of claim 4 , wherein the primary fixture further comprises positioner rollers that determine a correct orientation of the secondary fixture when coupled to the primary fixture. 6. The clamp of claim 4 , further comprising rollers disposed on the primary clamp fingers that engage the clamp pads on the secondary clamp fingers. 7. The clamp of claim 4 , further comprising a visual indicator attached to the primary clamp for indicating the open or closed position of the clamp. 8. The clamp of claim 4 , wherein the actuator is located within the rotatable primary clamp. 9. The clamp of claim 4 , further comprising a slew ring having an inner race and an outer race that is rotatable with respect to the inner race, wherein the inner race is attached to the primary fixture plate and the outer race is attached to the primary clamp. 10. The clamp of claim 4 , wherein the primary clamp is rotatable within the secondary fixture when the secondary fixture is coupled to the primary fixture. 11. The clamp of claim 10 , further comprising a visual indicator attached to the primary clamp for indicating the open or closed position of the clamp. 12. The clamp of claim 10 , wherein the actuator is located within the rotatable primary clamp. 13. The clamp of claim 10 , further comprising a slew ring having an inner race and an outer race that is rotatable with respect to the inner race, wherein the inner race is attached to the primary fixture plate and the outer race is attached to the primary clamp. 14. The clamp of claim 10 , wherein the primary clamp is rotatable within the secondary fixture when the secondary fixture is coupled to the primary fixture. 15. A clamp for clamping a work piece to a positioner, comprising: a primary fixture comprising: a primary fixture plate having centering rest pads forming a slot between the centering rest pads; and a primary clamp that is rotatably attached to said primary fixture plate, wherein the primary clamp comprises a plurality of primary clamp fingers separated by openings between the primary clamp fingers; and an actuator coupled to said primary clamp and said primary fixture plate that rotates said primary clamp between an open position and a closed position; and a secondary fixture comprising: a secondary clamp comprising a plurality of secondary clamp fingers separated by openings between the secondary clamp fingers; and a torque key projecting from a secondary clamp finger of said plurality of secondary clamp fingers, wherein the slot between the centering rest pads is engaged by said torque key as the secondary fixture is coupled to said primary fixture, and wherein upon the actuator rotating the primary clamp to the closed position, the primary clamp fingers engage the secondary clamp fingers. 16. The clamp of claim 15 , wherein the primary fixture further comprises positioner rollers that determine a correct orientation of the secondary fixture when coupled to the primary fixture. 17. The clamp of claim 15 , further comprising rollers disposed on the primary clamp fingers that engage the secondary clamp fingers. 18. The clamp of claim 15 , further comprising a visual indicator attached to the primary clamp for indicating the open or closed position of the clamp. 19. The clamp of claim 15 , wherein the actuator is located within the rotatable primary clamp. 20. The clamp of claim 15 , further comprising a slew ring having an inner race and an outer race that is rotatable with respect to the inner race, wherein the inner race is attached to the primary fixture plate and the outer race is attached to the primary clamp. 21. The clamp of claim 15 , wherein the primary clamp is rotatable within the secondary fixture when the secondary fixture is coupled to the primary fixture.
