Official abstract text for this publication.
The present invention is directed to a polypeptide which comprises: (i) an Rv2386c protein sequence; (ii) a variant of an Rv2386c protein sequence; of (iii) an immunogenic fragment of an Rv2386c protein sequence. In other aspects the invention is directed to associated polynucleotides, fusion proteins and methods for the treatment or prevention of tuberculosis.

We claim: 1. An immunogenic composition comprising: (i) a polypeptide which comprises an immunogenic fragment of at least 9 contiguous amino acids from an Rv2386c protein selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOs: 1 and 6; and (ii) a non-specific immune response enhancer. 2. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide comprises an immunogenic fragment of at least 9 contiguous amino acids from the Rv2386c protein of SEQ ID NO: 1. 3. The immunogenic composition according to claim 2 , wherein the polypeptide comprises an immunogenic fragment of at least 20 contiguous amino acids from the Rv2386c protein of SEQ ID NO: 1. 4. The immunogenic composition according to claim 3 , wherein the polypeptide comprises an immunogenic fragment of at least 50 contiguous amino acids from the Rv2386c protein of SEQ ID NO: 1. 5. A method for eliciting an immune response in a subject comprising the administration of a polypeptide which comprises an immunogenic fragment of at least 9 contiguous amino acids from an Rv2386c protein selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOs: 1 and 6. 6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the subject is a human. 7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the subject has active tuberculosis. 8. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the subject has latent tuberculosis. 9. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the subject does not have tuberculosis. 10. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the immune response is a T-cell response. 11. The method according to claim 5 , for eliciting a T-cell response in a human subject comprising the administration of a polypeptide which comprises an immunogenic fragment of at least 20 contiguous amino acids from the Rv2386c protein of SEQ ID NO: 1. 12. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the subject has active tuberculosis. 13. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the subject has latent tuberculosis. 14. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the subject does not have tuberculosis. 15. The immunogenic composition of claim 1 , further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient.
