The invention claimed is: 1. A process for the high-pressure synthesis of melamine from a urea feed, comprising a primary reaction stage in which urea is converted into melamine with an endothermic reaction, inside a vertical reactor, wherein said primary reaction stage is performed with a circulatory flow in a liquid mass comprising melamine and urea, said flow comprising: a descending flow through a central portion of said reactor, said flow being directly heated by heating elements installed in said central portion of said reactor and in contact with the liquid mass, and an ascending flow in a peripheral reaction zone which is arranged around said central portion and is without heating elements, the urea feed being introduced into said peripheral zone. 2. The process according to claim 1 , wherein the pressure is at least 70 bar. 3. The process according to claim 1 , wherein the pressure is between 70 and 250 bar.
