Official abstract text for this publication.
Disclosed is a nonlinear optical material (NLO) for use in deep-UV applications, and methods of fabrication thereof. The NLO is fabricated from a plurality of components according to the formula AqByCz and a crystallographic non-centrosymmetric (NCS) structure. The NLO material may be fabricated as a polycrystalline or a single crystal material. In an embodiment, the material may be according to a formula Ba3ZnB5PO14.

What is claimed is: 1. A nonlinear optical (NLO) material according to the formula A q B y C z and having a crystallographic non-centrosymmetric (NCS), structure, wherein the NLO material is a boratephosphate. 2. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein A comprises at least one of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal. 3. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein B comprises at least two of boron (B), carbon (C), or a transition metal. 4. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein wherein the NLO material crystallized in the orthorhombic polar space group Pmn2 1 . 5. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein q and y are each from about 1 to about 10. 6. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein z is from about 1 to about 20. 7. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein the NLO material is a polycrystalline material. 8. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein the NLO material is a single crystal. 9. The NLO material of claim 1 wherein the NLO material does not comprise beryllium. 10. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein a second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient of the NLO material at 532 nm is in a range of from about 20 a.u. to about 30 a.u. 11. The NLO material of claim 10 , wherein a particle size of the NLO material is from about 30 μm to about 130 μm. 12. The NLO material of claim 1 , wherein a second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient of the NLO material at 1064 nm is in a range of from about 42 a.u. to about 110 a.u. 13. The NLO material of claim 12 , wherein a particle size of the NLO material is from about 30 μm to about 130 μm. 14. A nonlinear optical (NLO) material according to the formula A q B y C z and having a crystallographic non-centrosymmetric (NCS) structure, wherein the NLO material is according to a composition Ba 3 ZnB 5 PO 14 .
