Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An apparatus is disclosed that provides a storage system designed to allow pickers to easily and efficiently pull products from all portions of the storage system from a single side of the storage system. The storage system includes a first storage rack that has a first plurality of columns and a first platform extending from one of the first plurality of columns. An outer edge of the first platform forms an end of the first storage rack. Positioned adjacent to the first storage rack is a second storage rack with a second plurality of columns and a second platform that extends from one of the second plurality of columns, where an outer edge of the second platform forms an end of the second storage rack. An aisle is formed by a predetermined distance between the outer edges of the first and second platforms.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A storage rack, comprising: a base surface; a first column directly or indirectly attached to the base surface; and a support bar directly or indirectly attached to the first column and spaced from the first column to form a supporting area for a pallet, wherein the support bar extends substantially perpendicularly from the first column until a corner portion which curves at a right angle on opposite sides the first column, the support bar is configured to support the pallet, the support bar has four curved corner portions, and additionally comprising at least four columns forming a line of vertically-extending columns together with said first column, horizontal bars extending outwardly from opposite sides of at three of said columns and connected to opposite sides of said support bar, said horizontal bars together with said support bar forming the supporting area for the pallet, a first series of separate vertical support bars ( 180 ), each said vertical support bar ( 180 ) positioned to support a respective horizontal bar ( 140 , 152 , 156 ) between said respective column ( 106 , 150 , 154 ) and said support bar ( 120 ) on either side of said respective column ( 106 , 150 , 154 ), wherein the vertical support bars ( 180 ) are set back from the support bar ( 120 ), and the respective vertical support bars ( 180 ) each include a bracket connected to adjacent horizontal bars ( 140 , 152 ), and the vertical support bars ( 180 ) each terminate a distance below the respective supporting area for the pallet. 2. The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the distance between the base surface and the support bar is 1-15 inches. 3. The storage rack of claim 1 , further comprising: a horizontal beam extending from the first column, wherein the horizontal beam is positioned above the storage rack and provides support to a second base surface. 4. The storage rack of claim 1 , further comprising a platform formed by the support bar. 5. The storage rack of claim 1 , wherein said first column is directly connected to a straight portion of the support bar. 6. The storage rack of claim 3 , additionally comprising: a second column directly or indirectly attached to the second base surface; and a second support bar directly or indirectly attached to the second column and spaced from the second column to form a supporting area for a pallet, wherein the second support bar extends substantially perpendicularly from the second column until a corner portion which curves at a right angle on opposite sides the second column, the second support bar is configured to support the pallet, the second support bar has four curved corner portions, and the support bars are spaced from one another to define an aisle along an entire horizontal distance between said two support bars from opposite ends thereof.
