Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods and apparatus for diverting fluids either into or from a well are described. Some embodiments include a diverter conduit that is located in a bore of a tree. The invention relates especially but not exclusively to a diverter assembly connected to a wing branch of a tree. Some embodiments allow diversion of fluids out of a tree to a subsea processing apparatus followed by the return of at least some of these fluids to the tree for recovery. Alternative embodiments provide only one flowpath and do not include the return of any fluids to the tree. Some embodiments can be retro-fitted to existing trees, which can allow the performance of a new function without having to replacing the tree. Multiple diverter assembly embodiments are also described.

The invention claimed is: 1. A tree assembly including a subsea tree with a production bore and a lateral production port communicating with the production bore, the tree assembly comprising: a pipework with: a first fluid flowpath communicating with the lateral production port, a second fluid flowpath communicating with an end port of the pipework, the pipework including: a first subsea-accessible port communicating with the first fluid flowpath, and a second subsea-accessible port communicating with the second fluid flowpath such that the pipework is communicating between the lateral production port and the end port, the pipework having the first and second fluid flowpaths and the first and second subsea-accessible ports therebetween, and a flow processing module with a processing apparatus communicating with the first and second fluid flowpaths. 2. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the subsea tree is a horizontal tree. 3. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the pipework includes a branch of the subsea tree. 4. The tree assembly of claim 3 wherein the pipework includes a branch extension. 5. The tree assembly of claim 3 wherein the pipework includes a flowline. 6. The tree assembly of claim 1 further including a first connector at the first subsea-accessible port and a second connector at the second subsea-accessible port. 7. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the first and second subsea-accessible ports are disposed in a housing. 8. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the first subsea-accessible port and the second subsea-accessible port are disposed on a diverter assembly, the first fluid flowpath extending through the diverter assembly to the first subsea-accessible port and the second fluid flowpath extending through the diverter assembly to the second subsea-accessible port. 9. The tree assembly of claim 8 wherein the diverter assembly separates the first fluid flowpath from the second fluid flowpath. 10. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the flow processing module, when installed, defines a module flowpath which communicates with the lateral production port and the end port. 11. The tree assembly of claim 10 further including a diverter assembly communicating the first and second fluid flowpaths with the module fluid flowpath. 12. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the flow processing module is selected from the group comprising at least one of a pump, process fluid turbine, injection apparatus, gas injection apparatus, steam injection apparatus, chemical injection apparatus, materials injection apparatus, gas separation apparatus, solids separation apparatus, water separation apparatus, a fluid riser, sand/debris separation apparatus, hydrocarbon separation apparatus, fluid measurement apparatus, temperature measurement apparatus, flow rate measurement apparatus, constitution measurement apparatus, consistency measurement apparatus, chemical treatment apparatus, squeeze and scale treatment apparatus, pressure boosting apparatus, and water electrolysis apparatus. 13. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the flow processing module includes a choke. 14. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the flow processing module includes a flow measurement apparatus. 15. The tree assembly of claim 1 further including a choke communicating with the first and second fluid flowpaths. 16. The tree assembly of claim 1 , wherein the flow processing module is connected to a diverter assembly. 17. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the flow module includes a choke and a flow measuring device; and the tree assembly, when installed, forms a tree fluid flowpath from the lateral production port, through the choke and flow measuring device, to the end port. 18. The tree assembly of claim 1 wherein the first and second fluid flowpaths are configured to communicate via a removable portion of the tree assembly connectable to the first and second subsea-accessible ports. 19. The tree assembly of claim 18 , wherein the removable tree portion includes a flow processing module. 20. The tree assembly of claim 1 further including a flow processing module communicating with either or both of the first and second fluid flowpaths. 21. The tree assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a fluids injection apparatus disposed on one of the first and second subsea-accessible ports to inject fluids into the pipework. 22. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the pipework communicates with a gathering manifold. 23. The assembly of claim 22 wherein the gathering manifold may be a single well or the junction of a plurality of pipeworks carrying production fluids from one or more wells. 24. An assembly including a gathering manifold having a junction for a plurality of pipeworks including flowlines carrying fluids to or from a plurality of subsea trees, the assembly comprising at least one pipework with a first fluid flowpath communicating with the junction and a second fluid flowpath communicating with an end port of the pipework, the pipework including a first subsea-accessible port communicating with the first fluid flowpath and a second subsea-accessible port communicating with the second fluid flowpath such that the pipework is communicating between the junction and the end port, the pipework having the first and second fluid flowpaths and the first and second subsea-accessible ports therebetween. 25. A tree assembly, comprising: a subsea tree with a production bore and a lateral production port communicating with the production bore; a pipework with a first fluid flowpath communicating with the lateral production port, a second fluid flowpath communicating with an end port of the pipework, a first subsea-accessible port communicating with the first fluid flowpath and a second subsea-accessible port communicating with the second fluid flowpath; and a flow processing module comprising a choke and a flow measuring device, and communicating with the first and second fluid flow paths; wherein the tree assembly includes a tree fluid flow path from the lateral production port, through the choke and measuring device, and to the end port.
