The invention provides a method for dispersing particles within a reaction field, the method comprising confining the particles to the reaction field using a standing wave. The invention also provides a system for coating particles, the system comprising a reaction zone; a means for producing fluidized particles within the reaction zone; a fluid to produce a standing wave within the reaction zone; and a means for introducing coating moieties to the reaction zone. The invention also provides a method for coating particles, the method comprising fluidizing the particles, subjecting the particles to a standing wave; and contacting the subjected particles with a coating moiety.

The invention claimed is: 1. A system for coating particles, the system comprising: a. a reaction zone; b. a means for producing fluidized particles within the reaction zone; c. a means for producing a standing fluid wave in the reaction zone by modulating fluid flow of a fluidizing gas; and d. a means for introducing coating moieties to the reaction zone. 2. The system as recited in claim 1 wherein the reaction zone contains an adjustable surface adapted to reflect the modulating fluid flow. 3. The system as recited in claim 1 wherein the means for producing a standing fluid wave causes the fluidizing fluid to contact the fluidized particles to produce the standing wave. 4. The system as recited in claim 3 wherein the modulating fluid flow is coherently applied to the fluidized particles. 5. The system as recited in claim 1 wherein the particles are no larger than 100 microns in diameter. 6. The system as recited in claim 1 wherein the coating moieties comprise at least a portion of the standing fluid wave. 7. The system as recited in claim 1 wherein the particles are different sizes. 8. The system as recited in claim 1 wherein the reaction zone is defined by a reaction chamber and the reaction chamber remains motionless. 9. The system as recited in claim 1 wherein the means for introducing coating moieties to the reaction zone includes a computer-controlled injections system with a fixed time interval between injections for alternatingly introducing two coating moieties into the reaction zone.
