Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Lighting units, systems, and methods are described herein for determining whether occupancy detections are legitimate or not. Methods and systems are further described herein for powering down a network of power over ethernet (PoE) components.

First claim

We claim: 1. A method of powering down a network of power over ethernet (PoE) components, comprising: transmitting, from a PoE component installed in an area to an area controller, data indicative that the PoE component has not detected occupancy for a first threshold amount of time; awaiting, by the area controller for a second threshold amount of time, a transmission, by one or more PoE components installed in the area, of data indicative of occupancy detection; transmitting, from the area controller to a floor controller after passage of the second threshold amount of time, data indicative that the area controller has not detected occupancy for the second threshold amount of time; awaiting, by the floor controller for a third threshold amount of time, a transmission, by one or more area controllers monitored by the floor controller, of data indicative of occupancy detection by the one or more area controllers; and transmitting, from the floor controller to a PoE switch after passage of the third threshold amount of time without receiving data indicative of occupancy detection by the one or more area controllers, a command to power down one or more PoE components. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the PoE component is a luminaire equipped with an occupancy detection sensor. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising stopping, by the floor controller after passage of the third threshold amount of time without receiving data indicative of occupancy detection by the one or more area controllers, metric collection pertaining to the one or more PoE components installed in the area.
