Hydrocarbon-containing feedstocks are processed to produce useful intermediates or products, such as fuels. For example, systems are described that can process a petroleum-containing feedstock, such as oil sands, oil shale, tar sands, and other naturally-occurring and synthetic materials that include both hydrocarbon components and solid matter, to obtain a useful intermediate or product.

What is claimed is: 1. A mixing apparatus for use in feedstock processing, said apparatus comprising: a liquid line for providing a primary fluid, said liquid line formed within an elongated member having a length; a plurality of inner nozzles, each said inner nozzle connected to said liquid line; a second line for providing a second fluid, said liquid line being positioned parallel to said second line along said length of said elongated member; a plurality of outer nozzles, each said outer nozzle aligned with a corresponding one of said inner nozzles; at least one mixing area located between outlets of each of said inner nozzle and said corresponding outer nozzle; and wherein said liquid line is internal and concentric to said second line, and said second fluid enters said mixing area completely around said inner nozzle and a mixture of said primary fluid with said second fluid exits each said outer nozzle in a direction perpendicular to said length of said elongated member. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said primary fluid is a motive fluid provided at high velocity into said mixing area. 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein within said mixing area said motive fluid entrains said second fluid. 4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said second fluid is a gas. 5. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said second fluid is a liquid. 6. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said gas is selected from a group consisting of compressed air, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. 7. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said gas is selected to provide oxidation reduction. 8. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein mixing of said motive fluid with said second fluid entrains bubbles therein. 9. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said primary fluid is supplied to said liquid line via a pump. 10. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said second fluid is provided to said second line via a compressor. 11. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said second fluid is provided at a velocity identical to said primary fluid entering through said liquid line. 12. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said second fluid is provided at a velocity different from said primary fluid entering through said liquid line. 13. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said liquid line is adjacent and parallel to said second line. 14. The apparatus of claim 13 wherein said second fluid enters said mixing area adjacent one side of said inner nozzle.
