Official abstract text for this publication.
Systems, methods and media for purchasing and commenting on identified products in streamed media are provided. In one example, a method comprises receiving program content and data describing program content from a content source and identifying product-related metadata associated with the program content. The product-related metadata includes data relating to one or more products or services displayed in the program content. In one embodiment, the program content is communicated to a display device for presentation to a first user in the display device. User commentary is received from a second device and communicated to the first user while the first user is viewing the program content. Commentaries of other users, for example in a wider social group, can also be presented to the first user.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: receiving program content and data describing program content from a content source; identifying, using one or more processors, product-related metadata associated with the program content, the product-related metadata including data relating to the one or more products or services displayed in the program content; communicating at least the program content to a display device for presentation to a first user in the display device; communicating at least the product-related metadata to a second display device for presentation to a second user substantially simultaneously with the presentation of the program content in the first display device; receiving a user commentary from the second device, the user commentary generated by the second user and associated with the product-related metadata wherein the second user commentary is communicated to the first user while the first user is viewing the program content; linking the second user commentary to the product-related metadata associated with the program content; storing the second user commentary and the link between the second user commentary to the product-related metadata associated with the program content; accessing commentaries of other users associated with the program content or product-related metadata; and presenting, to the first user, the commentaries of the other users. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: allowing the second user to specify that the commentary is stored in the network-based marketplace and associated with the second user's account in the networked-based marketplace. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data describing the program content includes at least one of a title of a program in the program content, a description of the program, a program genre, a program rating, an actor who appears in the program, a temporal length of the program, and a release date of the program. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user commentary includes at least one of a rating of a program in the program content, a summary of the program, a description of a program scene, and a description of a program character. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising communicating the second user commentary to other users who have viewed the program content. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the second user commentary is communicated to the other users while the other users are viewing the program content. 7. The method of claim 1 , the identifying of the data describing the program content including retrieving the data from the received program content. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying of the data relating to the one or more products or services displayed in the program content includes retrieving the data from a data source. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a user identification of a particular item in the program content. 10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: allowing a user to access a network-based marketplace to locate listings for similar products or services to the products or services displayed in the program content and associated with the commentary. 11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising communicating the program content to the second device, the program content presented substantially simultaneously on the first device and the second device. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the data describing the program content includes at least one of a title of a program in the program content, a description of the program, a program genre, a program rating, an actor who appears in the program, a temporal length of the program, and a release date of the program. 13. A system, comprising: processors; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor among the processors, cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving program content and data describing program content from a content source; identifying, using one or more processors, product-related metadata associated with the program content, the product-related metadata including data relating to the one or more products or services displayed in the program content; communicating at least the program content to a display device for presentation to a first user in the display device; communicating at least the product-related metadata to a second display device for presentation to a second user substantially simultaneously with the presentation of the program content in the first display device; receiving a user commentary from the second device, the user commentary generated by the second user and associated with the product-related metadata wherein the second user commentary is communicated to the first user while the first user is viewing the program content; linking the second user commentary to the product-related metadata associated with the program content; storing the second user commentary and the link between the second user commentary to the product-related metadata associated with the program content; accessing commentaries of other users associated with the program content or product-related metadata; and presenting, to the first user, the commentaries of the other users. 14. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising: receiving program content and data describing program content from a content source; identifying, using one or more processors, product-related metadata associated with the program content, the product-related metadata including data relating to the one or more products or services displayed in the program content; communicating at least the program content to a display device for presentation to a first user in the display device; communicating at least the product-related metadata to a second display device for presentation to a second user substantially simultaneously with the presentation of the program content in the first display device; receiving a user commentary from the second device, the user commentary generated by the second user and associated with the product-related metadata wherein the second user commentary is communicated to the first user while the first user is viewing the program content; linking the second user commentary to the product-related metadata associated with the program content; storing the second user commentary and the link between the second user commentary to the product-related metadata associated with the program content; accessing commentaries of other users associated with the program content or product-related metadata; and presenting, to the first user, the commentaries of the other users. 15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprise: allowing the second user to specify that the commentary is stored in the network-based marketplace and associated with the second user's account in the networked-based marketplace. 16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the data describing the program content includes at least one of a title of a program in the program content, a description of the program, a program genre, a program rating, an actor who appears in the program, a temporal length of the program, and a release date of the program. 17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the user commentary includes at least one of a rating of a program in the program content, a summary of the program, a description of a program scene, and a description of a program chara
