Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system redacts content in a multi-layered document by executing a content modifier process that redacts a first portion of content in a source layer and then automatically redacts related content in at least one target layer. The content modifier process overlays the source redaction region on corresponding areas of other layers in the document to identify target redaction regions in those other layers that contain target content. In turn, the content modifier process automatically identifies and redacts the target content within target redaction regions.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method comprising: receiving, at a computerized device, a selection of a first portion of content in a source layer of a multi-layer document; automatically identifying, by the computerized device, a second portion of content for redaction in a target layer different from the source layer, the second portion selected based on the selection of the first portion; determining, by the computerized device, that redacting the first portion or second portion of the content will interfere with a display of non-redacted content; in response to determining that the redacting will interfere, modifying, by the computerized device, an appearance of the redacting of the first portion or second portion to reduce interference with the display of the non-redacted content; and redacting, by the computerized device, the first portion and the second portion of the content. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein modifying the appearance of the redacting comprises minimizing the interference with the display of the non-redacted content. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein modifying the appearance of the redacting comprises converting an interfering redacted portion into a semi-transparent rendition of an original redacted portion. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein modifying the appearance of the redacting comprises changing a color of an interfering redacted portion. 5. The method of claim 1 wherein modifying the appearance of the redacting comprises changing a color of the non-redacted content. 6. The method of claim 1 wherein modifying the appearance of the redacting comprises removing the interfering redacted portions such that remaining space appears blank or unoccupied.
