Official abstract text for this publication.
The invention relates to a process of the oxidative dehydrogenation of an alkane containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms and/or the oxidation of an alkene containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms, wherein a gas stream comprising oxygen and the alkane and/or alkene is contacted with a mixed metal oxide catalyst containing molybdenum, vanadium, niobium and optionally tellurium, and wherein the linear velocity of said gas stream is at least 10 cm/sec.

That which is claimed is: 1. A process for the oxidative dehydrogenation of an alkane and wherein said alkane is ethane or propane, wherein a gas stream comprising oxygen and the alkane is contacted with a mixed metal oxide catalyst containing molybdenum, vanadium, niobium and optionally tellurium, and wherein the linear velocity of said gas stream is in the range of from 10 to 500 cm/sec. 2. The process according to claim 1 , wherein a gas hourly space velocity is of from 2,500 to 25,000 hr −1 . 3. The process according to claim 1 , wherein a pressure is of from 0.1 to 15 bara. 4. The process according to claim 1 , wherein a temperature is of from 300 to 500° C.
