According to the invention a safety device for a pre-filled syringe comprises a substantially cylindrical and hollow support body and a hollow needle shield slideably arranged relative to the support body. The support body comprises at least one resilient arm and the hollow needle shield or a needle shield assembly comprises at least one curved actuation ramp. The curved actuation ramp protrudes in a lateral direction (L) perpendicular to a central axis (A) of the safety device. The curved actuation ramp comprises a first lateral dimension (L 1 ) at a proximal end of the needle shield and a second lateral dimension (L 2 ) exceeding the first lateral dimension (L 1 ) at a distal end of the needle shield. The resilient arm engages the curved actuation ramp when the needle shield is slid relative to the support body.

The safety device according to claim 1 wherein the resilient arm is made from a plastics material. 3. The safety device according to claim 1 , wherein the resilient arm is integrally formed to the support body. 4. The safety device according to claim 1 , wherein the resilient arm is non-energized in a rest position, whereas the resilient arm in the rest position extends essentially parallel to the central axis and over a substantial axial length of the support body. 5. The safety device according to claim 1 , wherein the needle shield is slideable with respect to the support body from an initial position to a retracted position and further to an advanced position, wherein the needle shield protrudes from the support body in the initial position and in the advanced position and whereas the needle shield is substantially received within the support body in the retracted position. 6. The safety device according to claim 5 , wherein the needle shield in the retracted position is biased with respect to the support body in a distal direction by a stressed and energized resilient arm that is bent in the lateral direction. 7. The safety device according to claim 5 , wherein the resilient arm is in the rest position when the needle shield is in the initial position. 8. The safety device according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first curved actuation ramp and the second curved actuation ramp is integrally formed to the needle shield ( 1 . 1 ). 9. The safety device according to claim 1 , wherein the needle shield comprises a skin-contact flange of increased surface area. 10. The safety device according to claim 1 , further comprising a substantially cylindrical outer body within which the support body is arranged and that is slideably arranged with respect to the support body, whereas the outer body comprises at least one axial slot sized to receive at least one of the resilient arm or each curved actuation ramp. 11. The safety device according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first curved actuation ramp and the second actuation ramp has an outer edge and an inner edge nearer to the central axis than the outer edge, wherein the outer edge has a concave, arcuate shape when viewed from the central axis. 12. An injection device comprising: a pre-filled syringe; a hypodermic needle attached to a distal end of the pre-filled syringe; and a safety device for the pre- filled syringe, wherein the safety device comprises: a substantially cylindrical and hollow support body comprising at least one resilient arm, and a hollow needle shield slideably arranged relative to the support body, wherein the needle shield comprises a first curved actuation ramp and a second curved actuation ramp, the first curved actuation ramp protruding in a first lateral direction perpendicular to a central axis of the safety device, the second curved actuation ramp protruding in a second lateral direction perpendicular to the central axis of the safety device, the first lateral direction opposite the second lateral direction, the first curved actuation ramp spaced apart from the second actuation ramp along an outer circumference of the needle shield, and wherein each curved actuation ramp comprises a first lateral dimension at a proximal end of the needle shield and a second lateral dimension exceeding the first lateral dimension at a distal end of the needle shield, wherein the resilient arm engages each curved actuation ramp when the needle shield is slid relative to the support body, wherein the hypodermic needle protrudes the distal end of the support body and is surrounded by the needle shield in at least one of an initial position or in an advanced position, wherein each of the first curved actuation ramp and the second actuation ramp has an outer edge and an inner edge nearer to the central axis than the outer edge, wherein the outer edge has a concave, arcuate shape when viewed from the central axis. 13. A safety device for a pre-filled syringe, the safety device comprising: a substantially cylindrical and hollow support body comprising at least one resilient arm; and a hollow needle shield slideably arranged relative to the support body, wherein the needle shield or a needle shield assembly comprises a curved actuation ramp, the curved actuation ramp protruding in a lateral direction perpendicular to a central axis of the safety device, the curved actuation ramp comprising an outer edge and an inner edge nearer to the central axis than the outer edge, wherein the outer edge has a concave, arcuate shape when viewed from the central axis, wherein the curved actuation ramp comprises a first lateral dimension at a proximal end of the needle shield and a second lateral dimension exceeding the first lateral dimension at a distal end of the needle shield, whereby the resilient arm engages the curved actuation ramp when the needle shield is slid relative to the support body. 14.
