Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for remote monitoring. In some example implementations, there is provided a method. The method may include receiving, at a remote monitor, a notification message representative of an event detected, by a server, from analyte sensor data obtained from a receiver monitoring an analyte state of a host; presenting, at the remote monitor, the notification message to activate the remote monitor, wherein the remote monitor is configured by the server to receive the notification message to augment the receiver monitoring of the analyte state of the host; accessing, by the remote monitor, the server, in response to the presenting of the notification message; and receiving, in response to the accessing, information including at least the analyte sensor data. Related systems, methods, and articles of manufacture are also disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for administering remote monitoring of health data of a patient user and enabling the patient user to control dissemination of the health data and notifications, the method comprising: authorizing, at a secure server, a remote monitor device to remotely monitor an analyte concentration state of the patient user being monitored by a continuous analyte sensor device, the continuous analyte sensor device being capable of notifying a host device of the patient user based on a comparison of the analyte concentration state of the patient user with a first analyte concentration threshold, the authorizing including allowing the remote monitor device to access at least some analyte concentration data stored on the secure server associated with the analyte concentration state of the patient user, wherein the authorizing the remote monitor device is based, at least in part, on authorization information provided by the patient user to the secure server, thereby enabling the patient user to control authorization of the remote monitor device to access the at least some of the analyte concentration data of the patient user; receiving from the host device, at the secure server, a set of permissions for the remote monitor device indicating permissible data to the secure server to allow the remote monitor device to access the at least some analyte concentration data, wherein the set of permissions are modifiable by the host device and the host device is operable by the patient user or by a caregiver of the patient user, the host device being operable to manage sensor data generated by the continuous analyte sensor device, the continuous analyte sensor device being local to the host device, thereby enabling the patient user to control how much of the analyte concentration data of the patient user is accessible by the remote monitor device; and establishing, at the secure server, a set of notification rules for the remote monitor device using the host device, the set of notification rules defining a second analyte concentration threshold indicating when to trigger a notification to the remote monitor device based on a comparison of the at least some of the analyte concentration data of the patient user to the second analyte concentration threshold, the first and second analyte concentration thresholds being different from each other thereby enabling different notifications based on different analyte concentration thresholds to be sent to the remote monitor device and the host device, wherein the set of notification rules, including the second analyte concentration threshold, are modifiable by the remote monitor device only within a scope defined by the set of permissions to the data, thereby enabling the host device to set limits to modifications of the set of notification rules for notifications related to the analyte concentration data of the patient user available to be provided to the remote monitor device. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the authorizing the remote monitor device to have access to the data includes receiving from the host device, at the secure server, a selection of an individual associated with the remote monitor device to remotely monitor the patient user and wherein authorizing the remote monitor device is based at least partially on the selection from the host device. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the permissible data includes one or more of past sensor data, current sensor data, or a trend in the rate of change of the analyte concentration state of the patient user. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving from the host device, at the secure server, a permission instruction to establish a permission of the set of the permissions to allow or disallow the remote monitor device access to a portion or a category of the permissible data. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the received permission instruction includes a modification to a previously established permission of the set of permissions. 6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising: providing an update message to be sent to the remote monitor device, wherein the update message indicates the modification to the previously established permission. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving from the host device, at the secure server, a pause instruction to suspend the remote monitor device to remotely monitor the analyte concentration state of the patient user; and suspending, by the secure server, a capability of the remote monitoring in response to receiving the pause instruction. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the suspended capability includes cessation of any notifications to be sent to the remote monitor device informative of events associated with the analyte concentration state of the patient user based on the set of notification rules. 9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the suspended capability includes restriction to access particular data or a particular type of data of the permissible data otherwise available to the authorized remote monitor device. 10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising: receiving from the host device, at the secure server, a resume instruction to unsuspend the remote monitor device to remotely monitor the analyte state of the patient user; and restoring, by the secure server, the capability of the remote monitoring in response to receiving the resume instruction. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein a rule of the set of the notification rules pertains to when the secure server causes the notification to be sent to the remote monitor device based on the analyte concentration state of the patient user exceeding a predetermined threshold, the method further comprising: automatically modifying, at the secure server, the rule to increase or reduce the predetermined threshold based on at least one of a frequency of the notifications sent to the remote monitor device. 12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: creating, at the secure server, a time delay for transmission of the notification to the remote monitor device. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the time delay is configured to expire after a predetermined time to cause the secure server to cause the transmission of the notification to the remote monitor device unless the secure server receives an update from the host device that a particular action was performed in response to the event associated with the notification. 14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining a proximity of the remote monitor device with respect to the continuous analyte sensor device; and determining that the proximity is within a predetermined proximity range. 15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: generating a reminder notification pertaining to the notification to be sent to the remote monitor device after a predetermined amount of time. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the predetermined amount of time associated with the reminder notification is based on a severity of the event, a category of the event, or a type of the event, or a combination thereof. 17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising: delaying or ceasing the reminder notification to be sent to the remote monitor device in response to receiving information indicating the event has been addressed or resolved. 18. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving from the host device or the continuous analyte sensor device, at the secure server, location information of the continuous analyte sensor device; receiving from the remote monitor device,
