A system for supporting exterior panels on a substrate of a building structure. The system has a plurality of polymeric bracket members, and each of the bracket members have at least one anchor section, at least one web section and at least one support section. The polymeric bracket members provide a thermal break from the exterior panel to the substrate of the building structure. A plurality of exterior cladding units are held in place by the bracket members. A plurality of vents are disposed between the panels and the exterior panels, and a plurality of vents are also disposed between the panels and the substrate, thereby forming a ventilation system.

The invention claimed is: 1. A polymeric bracket member, comprising: an elongated member having a cross sectional configuration comprising: an anchor section and a support section, having a web section disposed therebetween and connecting the anchor section to the support section, the anchor section structurally configured for coupling to a building substrate with the support section structurally configured for coupling to an exterior cladding, with the web section having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, each of which surfaces extends between the anchor section and the support section, the anchor section extending from the first surface and the support section extending from the second surface; and at least one channel disposed on one of the anchor section and the support section, the at least one channel structurally configured to receive a rigidifying insert slidably insertable therewithin. 2. The polymeric bracket member of claim 1 wherein the at least one channel further comprises: an anchor channel disposed on the anchor section, the anchor channel structurally configured to receive a first rigidifying insert slidably insertable therewithin; and a support channel disposed on the support section, the support channel structurally configured to receive a second rigidifying insert slidably insertable therewithin, wherein the first rigidifying insert is positioned on the side of the first surface of the web section, with the second rigidifying insert positioned on the side of the second surface of the web section so that the rigidifying inserts are on opposite sides of the web section, and at opposite ends thereof. 3. The polymeric bracket member of claim 2 wherein the anchor channel and the support channel are substantially parallel to each other. 4. The polymeric bracket member of claim 3 wherein the web section is perpendicular to each of the anchor section and the support section. 5. The polymeric bracket member of claim 4 wherein the anchor channel is formed on an interior surface of the anchor section. 6. The polymeric bracket member of claim 5 wherein the at least one support channel is formed on an interior surface of the anchor section. 7. The polymeric bracket member of claim 6 wherein the support channel comprises a t-shaped channel which is structurally configured to positively capture the second rigidifying insert. 8. The polymeric bracket member of claim 7 wherein the anchor channel comprises a t-shaped channel which is structurally configured to capture the first rigidifying insert. 9. The polymeric bracket member of claim 8 wherein the web section includes a first side and a second side, with a rib extending from each of the first side and the second side structurally configured to retain insulation. 10. The polymeric bracket member of claim 9 further comprising a channel disposed on at least one of the interior side of the anchor section and the exterior surface of the support section, and structurally configured to guide a fastener during assembly. 11. The polymeric bracket member of claim 10 wherein the anchor section, the support section and the web section define a z-shaped configuration. 12. The polymeric bracket member of claim 11 wherein the bracket member comprises a fiber reinforced polymeric member. 13. The polymeric bracket member of claim 12 further comprising a first rigidifying insert member slidably positionable within the anchor channel and a second rigidifying insert member slidably positionable within the support channel. 14. The polymeric bracket member of claim 13 wherein the first rigidifying insert member and the second rigidifying insert member each comprise a metal material. 15. The polymeric bracket member of claim 14 wherein the first rigidifying insert member and the second rigidifying insert member each comprise a substantially uniform rectangular cross-sectional configuration.
