Official abstract text for this publication.
A welded assembly includes a first sheet and a second sheet. The second sheet is disposed over a portion of the first sheet and defines an overlap portion between the first and second sheets. A weld fastening the second sheet to the first sheet in the overlap area connects the second sheet to the first sheet for distributing stress uniformly across a welded portion of the overlap area.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of forming a welded assembly for a turbine section of a gas turbine engine, wherein the turbine section includes a liner having a first liner sheet and a coupler with a first longitudinal end between a first longitudinal outer edge and a first longitudinal inner bend, the first longitudinal end being connected to the first liner sheet by a first weld, wherein the welded assembly includes the first liner sheet, the first longitudinal end, and the weld, the method comprising: positioning a first side of the first longitudinal end against the first liner sheet and tracing a portion of an elliptical curve on a second side of the first longitudinal end, wherein the portion of the elliptical curve is symmetrical about a minor axis, continuous about a first semi-minor axis extending toward the first bend, and discontinuous about a second semi-minor axis extending toward the first longitudinal outer edge wherein the first weld is formed using a laser welding process. 2. A method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the method further includes offsetting the first weld from the first longitudinal inner bend by a distance that is about a quarter of the minor axis of the portion of the elliptical curve. 3. A method as recited in claim 1 , further including offsetting the first weld from an outer lateral edge of the first longitudinal end of the coupler by about one and a half times a span of the minor axis of the portion of the elliptical curve.
