Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A pipe cutting tool having: a plurality of rollers; a clamping member moveable between an open position in which a pipe is insertable between the plurality of rollers and a clamping position in which the pipe is secured between the rollers; a cutting apparatus having first, second, and third cutting members configured to optionally sequentially engage the pipe when positioned between the plurality of rollers; a drive motor drivingly connected to at least one of the rollers; and an actuator operatively connected to the drive motor.

The invention claimed is: 1. An apparatus for cutting pipe, the apparatus comprising: (a) a base comprising a pipe support having at least one set of lower rollers; (b) an upper frame supporting a first cutting apparatus, a second cutting apparatus, and at least one upper roller, the upper frame being moveable relative to the base between an open position in which a pipe may be inserted between the at least one set of lower rollers and the at least one upper roller, and a clamping position in which the inserted pipe is in contact with the at least one set of lower rollers and the at least one upper roller; (c) the first and second cutting apparatus being moveable between a first cutting position in which the first cutting apparatus is positioned to cut a pipe having a first diameter, and a second cutting position in which the second cutting apparatus is positioned to cut a pipe having a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter; (d) a drive motor drivingly connected to at least one roller in the at least one set of lower rollers; and, (e) an actuator operatively connected to the drive motor wherein the first cutting apparatus comprises a first grooving member configured to provide an annular groove on an outer surface of a pipe having the first diameter, a first cutting member configured to cut the pipe of the first diameter into first and second sections, and a first chamfering member configured to provide a chamfer on the outer surface of the pipe of the first diameter between a location of the annular groove and a location of the cut in the pipe, and wherein the second cutting apparatus comprises a second grooving member configured to provide an annular groove on an outer surface of a pipe having the second diameter, a second cutting member configured to cut the pipe of the second diameter into first and second sections, and a second chamfering member configured to provide a chamfer on the outer surface of the pipe of the second diameter between a location of the annular groove and a location of the cut in the pipe. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the upper frame is repositionable relative to the base between a first orientation in which a first end of the first cutting apparatus is located closer to a first end of the base than a second end of the first cutting apparatus, and a second orientation in which the first end of the first cutting apparatus is located closer to the first end of the base than the second end of the first cutting apparatus, whereby a first and a second end of the pipe can be grooved, chamfered, and cut without rotating the pipe, relative to the base, about an axis transverse to a longitudinal axis of the pipe. 3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the first grooving member comprises offset first and second grooving members located on either side of the first cutting member, and wherein the first chamfering member comprises offset first and second chamfering members located on either side of the cutting member such that each offset chamfering member is positioned between a grooving member and the cutting member. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second grooving member comprises offset first and second grooving members located on either side of the second cutting member, and wherein the second chamfering member comprises offset first and second chamfering members located on either side of the cutting member such that each offset chamfering member is positioned between a grooving member and the cutting member. 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the base comprises a support trough that is adapted to receive different sized pipes. 6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the at least one set of lower rollers comprises a first set of lower rollers configured to receive a pipe having a first diameter and a second set of lower rollers configured to receive a pipe having a second diameter that is larger than the first diameter. 7. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein the support trough is generally V-shaped with the first set of lower rollers is positioned in a lower portion of the trough and the second set of lower rollers is positioned above the first set of lower rollers. 8. The cutting tool of claim 7 wherein the drive motor is drivingly connected to the at least one set of lower rollers.
