A method of manufacturing a midsole includes placing first and second preforms into a midsole recess of a mold, with first and second portions of the mold defining a first overflow chamber connected to the first recess; closing the mold by positioning the first and second portions in contact with one another; heating the mold for a predetermined period of time at a predetermined temperature such that the first and second preforms melt and bond together to form a midsole, with a portion of each of the first and second preforms flowing into the first overflow chamber to form a first overflow portion; removing the midsole from the mold; allowing the midsole to expand; and cutting away the first overflow portion.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of manufacturing a midsole for an article of footwear, the method comprising: placing first and second preforms into a first recess of a first portion of a mold, a second portion of the mold having a second recess that cooperates with the first recess to define a midsole recess, and an uppermost surface of the first portion and a lowermost surface of the second portion cooperating to define a first overflow chamber connected to the midsole recess by a first overflow channel, wherein the midsole recess is substantially foot-shaped and the first overflow chamber extends around a heel portion of the midsole recess, the first overflow channel being coextensive with the first overflow chamber around the heel portion, whereby one or more additional and distinct overflow chambers and coextensive channels thereof are provided around the midsole recess portions of the midsole recess forward of the first overflow chamber and the first overflow channel, on both a medial and a lateral side of the midsole recess, being free of an overflow chamber and corresponding overflow channel; closing the mold by positioning the first and second portions in contact with one another; heating the mold for a predetermined period of time at a predetermined temperature such that the first and second preforms melt and bond together to form a midsole within the midsole recess, with a portion of each of the first and second preforms flowing into each of the first and additional overflow chambers via corresponding ones of the first and additional overflow channels, thereby forming an overflow portion formed from the first and second preforms within each of the overflow chambers; removing the midsole from the mold, whereby the midsole expands to some degree after said removing; and cutting away the overflow portion of the midsole after said expanding. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined period of time is between about 5 minutes and about 8 minutes, and the predetermined temperature is about 130° C. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first and second preforms are formed of EVA. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein a color of the first preform is different than a color of the second preform. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein a physical property of the first preform is different than a physical property of the second preform. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second preform is positioned beneath a heel region of the first preform. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first portion includes a first lower overflow recess and a first lower channel connecting the first lower overflow recess to the first recess, and the second portion includes a first upper overflow recess and a first upper channel connecting the first upper overflow recess to the second recess, the first lower and upper channels combining to define the first overflow channel, and the first lower overflow recess and the first upper overflow recess combining to define the first overflow chamber. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein, as one of the additional overflow chambers and coextensive channels thereof, the mold includes a second overflow chamber and a second overflow channel connecting the second overflow chamber to the midsole recess, the first portion including a second lower overflow recess and a second lower channel connecting the second lower overflow recess to the first recess, and the second portion including a second upper overflow recess and a second upper channel connecting the second upper overflow recess to the second recess, the second lower and upper channels combining to define the second overflow channel, and the second lower overflow recess and the second upper overflow recess combining to define the second overflow chamber. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the second overflow chamber extends along a lateral side and in a forefoot portion of the midsole recess. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein a height of the first overflow channel is less than a height of the first overflow chamber. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein a cross-section of the first overflow channel is substantially rectangular. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein a cross-section of the first overflow chamber is substantially circular.
