An air mattress comprises an internal structure for helping the air mattress maintain a desired geometric shape when inflated and for preventing shearing of the top and bottom surfaces of the mattress. The internal structure comprises a plurality of connection strips or a mesh web that are attached to a plurality of top surface connection points and bottom surface connection points.

What is claimed is: 1. An inflatable air mattress comprising: a top surface having a top side and a bottom side, the top surface comprising a plurality of top surface connection points on the bottom side of the top surface; a bottom surface having a top side and a bottom side, the bottom surface comprising a plurality of bottom surface connection points on the top side of the bottom surface; one or more side surfaces connecting the top surface to the bottom surface such that the top surface, bottom surface, and side surfaces form an airtight enclosure that comprises the exterior of the inflatable air mattress, wherein each side surface comprises an inner side and an outer side; and a mesh web composed of a single piece of material, the single piece of material being directly attached to two or more of the plurality of top surface connection points and two or more of the plurality of bottom surface connection points. 2. The inflatable air mattress of claim 1 , wherein the single piece of material comprises a plurality of apertures. 3. The inflatable air mattress of claim 1 , wherein an outer edge of the mesh web is attached to the inner side of a side surface. 4. The inflatable air mattress of claim 1 , wherein a top side of the mesh web is attached to the plurality of top surface connection points and a bottom side of the mesh web is attached to the plurality of bottom surface connection points. 5. The inflatable air mattress of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of top surface connection points are spaced apart at predetermined intervals and the plurality of bottom surface connection points are spaced apart at predetermined intervals. 6. The inflatable air mattress of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of bottom surface connection points are located on the bottom surface in positions that are offset relative to the plurality of the top surface connection points on the top surface, with respect to a plane parallel to the bottom surface. 7. The inflatable air mattress of claim 1 , wherein the mesh web is attached to at least one of the plurality of top surface connection points and/or the plurality of bottom surface connection by an attachment strip. 8. An inflatable air mattress comprising: a top surface having a top side and a bottom side, the top surface comprising a plurality of top surface connection points on the bottom side of the top surface; a bottom surface having a top side and a bottom side, the bottom surface comprising a plurality of bottom surface connection points on the top side of the bottom surface; one or more side surfaces connecting the top surface to the bottom surface such that the top surface, bottom surface, and side surfaces form an airtight enclosure that comprises an exterior of the inflatable air mattress; and a plurality of connection strips, wherein each connection strip is a single piece of material and is attached to at least three of the plurality of top surface connection points and/or the plurality of bottom surface connection points. 9. The inflatable air mattress of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of connection strips are aligned in one or more rows that are parallel to a side surface upon inflation of the inflatable air mattress. 10. The inflatable air mattress of claim 9 , wherein the inflatable air mattress has a length and a width, and wherein the plurality of connection strips are parallel to the length of the inflatable air mattress. 11. The inflatable air mattress of claim 9 , wherein the inflatable air mattress has a length and a width, and wherein the plurality of the connection strips are parallel to the width of the inflatable air mattress. 12. The inflatable air mattress of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of attachment strips, wherein each attachment strip serves to secure a connection strip to a top surface connection point of the plurality of top surface connection points or a bottom surface connection point of the plurality of bottom surface connection points. 13. The inflatable air mattress of claim 12 , wherein an attachment strip, a portion of a connection strip, and a portion of the top surface or bottom surface are welded together. 14. The inflatable air mattress of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of connection strips are constructed from a single piece of material. 15. The inflatable air mattress of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the plurality of connection strips is configured to extend from a top surface connection point of the plurality of top surface connection points to a bottom surface connection point of the plurality of bottom surface connection points at a non-right angle with respect to the top surface when the inflatable air mattress is inflated. 16. An inflatable air mattress comprising: a top surface having a top side and a bottom side; a bottom surface having a top side and a bottom side; a plurality of connection points, the plurality of connection points including (i) a plurality of top surface connection points on the bottom side of the top surface and (ii) a plurality of bottom surface connection points on the top side of the bottom surface; one or more side surfaces connecting the top surface to the bottom surface such that the top surface, bottom surface, and one or more side surfaces form an airtight enclosure that comprises an exterior of the inflatable air mattress; and a plurality of connection strips, each connection strip of the plurality of connection strips being a single piece of material and being attached to at least three of the plurality of connection points, wherein a first group of connection strips of the plurality of connection strips attaches to, and extends away from, a connection point of the plurality of connection points toward a respective opposing surface. 17. The inflatable air mattress of claim 16 , wherein the respective opposing surface of a top surface connection point of the plurality of top surface connection points is the bottom surface, and the respective opposing surface of a bottom surface connection point of the plurality of top surface connection points is the top surface. 18. The inflatable air mattress of claim 16 , wherein the first group of connection strips of the plurality of connection strips comprises four connection strips. 19. The inflatable air mattress of claim 18 , wherein each of the four connection strips of the first group of connection strips extends away from the connection point of the plurality of connection points and connects to a different connection point of the plurality of connection points on the respective opposing surface. 20. The inflatable air mattress of claim 19 , wherein the four connection strips of the first group of connection strips are configured to extend away from the connection point toward the respective opposing surface and radially outward from the connection point such that, at the respective opposing surface and when the air mattress is inflated, each connection strip of the four connection strips is approximately equidistant from either adjacent connection strip of the four connection strips.
