Having thus described the preferred embodiments, the invention is now claimed to be: 1. A bone plate alignment guide apparatus, comprising: a body, the body comprising: an arm with a first end and a second end; an attachment portion at the first end, the attachment portion comprising a through hole; and an alignment portion at the second end, the alignment portion comprising at least one through hole; a fixation insert configured to pass through the through hole of the attachment portion; a guide pin configured to pass through the at least one through hole of the alignment portion; and a screw configured to engage the guide pin; and wherein the arm is configured to position the through hole of the attachment portion generally perpendicular to the at least one through hole of the alignment portion, and wherein the at least one through hole of the alignment portion is positioned to align the guide pin below the fixation insert. 2. The alignment guide apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the fixation insert comprises: a knob portion; and a shaft portion extending away from the knob portion. 3. The alignment guide apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the shaft portion comprises an alignment portion and a threaded section. 4. The alignment guide apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the screw has a first end and a second end, the screw comprising: a head portion at the first end; a shaft portion extending away from the head portion to the second end, wherein the shaft portion comprises a smooth portion and a threaded portion; and a through hole extending from the first end to the second end. 5. The bone plate alignment guide apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the arm is curved to position the at least one through hole of the alignment portion adjacent to a side of a patient's bones and the through hole of the attachment portion being adjacent to a dorsal surface of the patient's bones. 6. The bone plate alignment guide apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a bottom of the fixation insert is positioned perpendicular to a first plane and the guide pin is positioned on a second plane, and wherein the first plane is positioned above the second plane. 7. A bone plate alignment system, comprising: a bone plate with a first end, a second end, and an intermediate portion connecting the first end and second end, the bone plate comprising: at least one through hole in the first end; at least one through hole in the second end; at least one opening between the first end and the second end; and a compression slot on the second end; a bone plate alignment guide, comprising: a body, comprising: an arm with a first end and a second end; an attachment portion at the first end; and an alignment portion at the second end; a fixation insert configured to pass through the attachment portion; a guide wire configured to pass through the alignment portion; wherein the fixation insert couples to the at least one opening of the bone plate; a screw configured to engage the guide wire during insertion into at least one portion of bone; at least one first fastener for insertion through the at least one through hole on the first end of the bone plate and into a first portion of bone; and at least one second fastener for insertion through the at least one through hole on the second end of the bone plate and into a second portion of bone. 8. The alignment system of claim 7 , further comprising: a temporary fixation mechanism configured to engage the compression slot. 9. The alignment system of claim 7 , wherein the intermediate portion of the bone plate comprises at least one alignment marking. 10. The alignment system of claim 7 , wherein the at least one opening between the first end and the second end comprises a first opening and a second opening. 11. The alignment system of claim 10 , wherein the fixation insert comprises: a knob portion; and a shaft portion extending away from the knob portion. 12. The alignment system of claim 11 , wherein the shaft portion comprises an alignment member and a threaded section, wherein the alignment member is configured to engage the second opening in the bone plate. 13. The alignment system of claim 12 , wherein the second opening is threaded and configured to engage the threaded section of the fixation insert. 14. The alignment system of claim 10 , further comprising: an alignment post configured to engage an opening in the attachment portion adjacent to a through hole in the attachment portion on a first end and the first opening in the bone plate on a second end. 15. The alignment system of claim 7 , wherein the screw has a first end and a second end and comprises a through hole extending from the first end to the second end, the through hole is configured to receive the guide wire. 16. A method for moving a joint, comprising: preparing the joint; obtaining a bone plate alignment guide apparatus, comprising: a body, the body comprising: an arm with a first end and a second end; an attachment portion at the first end; and an alignment portion at the second end; a fixation insert configured to engage the attachment portion; a guide pin configured to pass through the alignment portion; and a screw configured to engage the guide pin; aligning a bone plate on the joint, wherein the bone plate comprises: at least one through hole in the first end; at least one through hole in the second end; at least one opening between the first end and the second end; and a compression slot on the second end; inserting at least one first temporary fixation pin to secure the bone plate to a first bone of the joint; inserting at least one second temporary fixation pin to secure the bone plate to a second bone of the joint; attaching the bone plate alignment guide apparatus to the bone plate in a desired position relative to the joint; inserting the guide pin across the joint through the alignment portion of the body of the bone plate alignment guide apparatus; inserting the screw over the guide pin to move the joint; securing the bone plate to the first bone and second bone of the joint; removing the bone plate alignment guide apparatus; and closing the incision of the patient. 17.
