Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A diffuser includes an air inlet for receiving an airflow from a hair dryer, a grille having a plurality of air outlets for emitting at least part of the airflow from the diffuser, a baffle having an outwardly tapering wall which defines a diffusing air chamber through which the airflow passes between the air inlet and the air outlets, and an external wall which surrounds the wall of the baffle to define a second air chamber therebetween. The second air chamber has a plurality of ports in fluid communication with the ambient atmosphere.

The invention claimed is: 1. A diffuser for attachment to an airflow outlet end of a hair dryer, the diffuser comprising: at least one air inlet for receiving an airflow from a hair dryer; a grille comprising a plurality of air outlets for emitting at least part of the airflow from the diffuser; a baffle comprising an outwardly tapering wall which defines a diffusing air chamber through which the airflow passes between the at least one air inlet and the air outlets; and an external wall which surrounds the wall of the baffle to define a second air chamber therebetween, wherein the second air chamber comprises a plurality of ports in fluid communication with the ambient atmosphere and the second air chamber is isolated from the diffusing air chamber. 2. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein each of the ports is in the form of a slot. 3. The diffuser of claim 2 , wherein each slot is annular in shape. 4. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein each of the ports is located proximate to a respective end of the external wall. 5. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the ports is located between the baffle and the external wall. 6. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein the external wall surrounds the grille. 7. The diffuser of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the ports is located between the grille and the external wall. 8. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein the external wall is generally frustoconical in shape. 9. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein one of the baffle and the external wall comprises a plurality of spacers for engaging the other one of the baffle and the external wall. 10. The diffuser of claim 9 , wherein the spacers are angularly spaced about the longitudinal axis of the diffuser. 11. The diffuser of claim 10 , wherein the other one of the baffle and the external wall comprises an angular alignment member which is received between two adjacent spacers during assembly. 12. The diffuser of claim 9 , wherein, during assembly, the external wall is joined to the baffle at ends of the spacers. 13. The diffuser of claim 9 , wherein the spacers are located on an internal surface of the external wall. 14. The diffuser of claim 13 , wherein the spacers are integral with the external wall. 15. The diffuser of claim 13 , wherein the spacers are located between the ends of the external wall. 16. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein the at least one air inlet is spaced from a longitudinal axis of the diffuser. 17. The diffuser of claim 1 , wherein the at least one air inlet comprises at least one slot. 18. The diffuser of claim 17 , wherein the at least one air inlet comprises an annular slot.
