Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A filter element, and filter apparatus, include a filter pack, a seal member, and a seal support frame operatively connecting the seal member to the filter pack. The seal support frame includes an annular extension, which is preferably canted at an oblique angle to a longitudinal axis, for supporting the seal member. The seal support frame also preferably includes a first end thereof including the annular extension, and a second end thereof spaced from the first end thereof along the longitudinal axis, with the first and second ends of the seal support frame joined by a hub of the outer peripheral sidewall of the seal support frame to define a cavity within the seal support frame for receiving the filter pack. The first and second ends of the seal support frame, and the filter pack are preferably joined and sealed to one another by a single bead of adhesive.

What is claimed is: 1. An air filter cartridge comprising: (a) a media pack comprising a fluted media sheet secured to a facing media sheet, the media pack having an inlet flow face, an outlet flow face, and an axial length between the inlet flow face and the outlet flow face, wherein the media is closed to the flow of unfiltered air therethrough; (b) a frame having a sidewall portion circumscribing the media pack and including a seal support, wherein the media pack is secured within the frame; and, the frame includes a plurality of apertures therethrough in a portion of the frame, the seal support and plurality of apertures are over and above the outlet flow face; and (c) a seal arrangement secured on the seal support. 2. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the media pack has a cross section with a pair of opposite sides joined by a pair of curved opposite ends. 3. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the frame comprises a molded plastic material. 4. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the seal arrangement comprises urethane foam. 5. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the frame is secured to the media pack by the seal arrangement. 6. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the media pack comprises a coiled media pack. 7. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the frame includes a portion extending over one of the media pack flow faces. 8. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the frame includes a portion extending over the outlet flow face of the media pack. 9. An air filter cartridge according to claim 7 , wherein the portion extending over one of the pack flow faces comprises a grid work. 10. An air filter cartridge according to claim 9 , wherein the grid work inhibits media telescoping. 11. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the frame further comprises a canted surface extending at an angle relative to the media pack. 12. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein: (a) the plurality of apertures in the frame are seal flow apertures; and (b) the seal arrangement is molded to the seal support and extends through the seal flow apertures. 13. An air filter cartridge comprising: (a) a media pack having a first end, a second end, and an axial length between the first end and the second end, the first end being an inlet flow face and the second end being an outlet flow face; wherein the media is closed to the flow of unfiltered air therethrough; (b) a frame having a sidewall portion circumscribing the media pack and including a seal support, wherein the media pack is secured within the frame; and, the frame includes a plurality of apertures therethrough in a portion of the frame, the seal support and plurality of apertures are over and above the outlet flow face; and (c) a seal arrangement secured on the seal support. 14. An air filter cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the media pack has a cross section with a pair of opposite sides joined by a pair of curved opposite ends. 15. An air filter cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the frame comprises molded plastic. 16. An air filter cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the seal arrangement comprises urethane foam. 17. An air filter cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the frame is secured to the media pack by the seal arrangement. 18.
