A composite acoustic liner has a septumized cellular core. Septa are installed in the core as the individual core cells are being formed. Individual tools are used to both form the cells of the core and index the septa within the cells. The septa and the cellular core are cocured.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of producing a septumized acoustic core, comprising: forming a plurality of individual composite septums; installing the plurality of individual composite septums respectively on a plurality of tools; forming a cellular core having a plurality of cells, including wrapping composite sheets around the tools having the plurality of individual composite septums thereon; cocuring the cellular core and the plurality of individual composite septums; and removing the tools after the cellular core and the individual composite septums have been co-cured; wherein installing the plurality of individual composite septums includes sleeving an individual composite septum over a conically shaped tool head of a male tool member configured to mate with and be received within a conical tool cavity of a female tool member; wherein when the male tool member and the female tool member are drawn together, the individual composite septum is captured therebetween, and a lower section of the individual composite septum is trapped inside the conical tool cavity while an exposed upper section of the individual composite septum extends down over an outer surface of the male tool member; and wherein wrapping composite sheets around the plurality of tools having the plurality of individual composite septums thereon includes wrapping one of the composite sheets around the exposed upper section of the individual composite septum; and wherein the lower section of the individual composite septum forms a cavity. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein installing the plurality of individual composite septums includes holding each of the plurality of individual composite septums between the male tool member and the female tool member. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein wrapping composite sheets includes: encircling each of the tools with one of the composite sheets, and bring the composite sheets into contact with sections of each of the plurality of individual composite septums. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein forming the cellular core includes: forming an assembly of the tools, and indexing each of the tools relative to the composite sheets to locate the plurality of individual composite septums within the cells of the cellular core. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein forming the cellular core further includes compacting the composite sheets against the tools. 6. A method of producing a septumized cellular core, comprising: forming a plurality of cells, wherein each of the plurality of cells has cell walls and contains a composite septum, including wrapping composite sheets respectively around a plurality of composite septums; joining each of the plurality of composite septums to a cell wall by co-curing the plurality of cells and the plurality of composite septums; placing the composite septums respectively on a plurality of tools; and removing the tools after a cellular core and an individual composite septum have been co-cured; wherein wrapping the composite sheets includes encircling each of the tools having a composite septum thereon with one of the composite sheets and wrapping one of the composite sheets around an exposed upper section of the composite septum; wherein placing the composite septums on the plurality of tools includes sleeving a composite septum over a conically shaped tool head configured to mate with and be received within a conical tool cavity of a female tool member; wherein when a male tool member and the female tool member are drawn together, the composite septum is captured therebetween, and a lower section of the composite septum is trapped inside the conical tool cavity while the exposed upper section of the composite septum extends down over an outer surface of the male tool member; and wherein the lower section of an individual composite septum forms a cavity. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein forming the plurality of cells includes compacting the composite sheets against each of the tools. 8. The method of claim 6 , further comprising: indexing each of the plurality of composite septums within one of the plurality of cells by adjusting a position of a tool before performing co-curing. 9. The method of claim 6 , further comprising: arranging the tools into a tool array corresponding to the plurality of cells. 10. The method of claim 6 , further comprising: removing the tools after co-curing. 11. A method of producing an acoustic liner, comprising: placing a septum on each of a plurality of tools; forming a cellular core having a plurality of cells, including wrapping composite sheets around the tools and bringing the composite sheets into contact with a section of each of the septums; cocuring the cellular core and the septum; removing the tools from the cellular core after the cellular core and the septums have been co-cured; and attaching first and second facesheets on opposite sides of the cellular core; wherein placing the septum on each of the plurality of tools includes sleeving a septum a conically shaped tool head of a male tool member configured to mate with and be received within a conical tool cavity of a female tool member so that when the male tool member and the female tool member are drawn together, the septum is captured therebetween, and a lower section of the septum is trapped inside the conical tool cavity while an exposed upper section of the septum extends down over an outer surface of the male tool member; and wherein wrapping composite sheets around the tools includes wrapping one of the composite sheets around the exposed upper section of the septum; and wherein the lower section of an individual composite septum forms a cavity. 12. The method of claim 6 , further comprising holding each of the plurality of composite septums between the male tool member and the female tool member. 13. The method of claim 11 , wherein wrapping composite sheets includes encircling each of the tools with one of the composite sheets. 14. The method of claim 11 , wherein wrapping the composite sheets includes bringing the composite sheets into contact with sections of a septum. 15. The method of claim 11 , wherein forming the cellular core includes forming an assembly of the tools. 16. The method of claim 11 , wherein forming the cellular core includes indexing each of the tools relative to the composite sheets to locate the septum within the cells of the cellular core. 17. The method of claim 11 , wherein forming the plurality of cells includes compacting the composite sheets against each of the tools. 18. The method of claim 11 further comprising: indexing a septum within one of the plurality of cells by adjusting a position of a tool before performing co-curing. 19. The method of claim 11 , further comprising arranging the tools into a tool array corresponding to the plurality of cells. 20. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: removing the tools after co-curing.
