The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows: 1. A patient transport apparatus system comprising: a base having a first set of wheels; an articulatable litter deck for supporting a patient, said litter deck including a seat section and a back section, and said litter deck being removably mounted to said base and including a second set of wheels; a lift mounting said litter deck to said base, said lift operable to raise and lower said litter deck relative to said base; and when said litter deck is mounted to said base, said litter deck operable to lie in a generally horizontal first configuration wherein said litter deck and said base form a first wheeled transport apparatus in the form of a cot for supporting a person in a supine position, and when removed from said base, said litter deck forms a second wheeled transport apparatus for supporting the person and being movable independent of said base. 2. The transport apparatus system according to claim 1 , wherein said litter deck is reconfigurable in a second configuration wherein said second wheeled transport apparatus comprises a chair. 3. The transport apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprising a frame mounting said litter deck to said lift, and said frame being adapted to support said litter deck while said litter deck is reconfigured between said first configuration and said second configuration. 4. The transport apparatus system according to claim 1 , wherein said base comprises a first base, said litter deck further including a second base for said second wheeled transport apparatus. 5. The transport apparatus system according to claim 4 , wherein said second base is mounted to said frame when said litter deck is mounted to said frame. 6. The transport apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein said litter deck is foldable relative to said second base. 7. The transport apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein said second base includes a track. 8. The transport apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said lift mechanism is operable to tilt said litter deck relative to said base. 9. The transport apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said lift comprises an X-frame. 10. A patient transport apparatus system comprising: a first set of wheels; a litter deck forming a patient support surface for supporting a patient, said litter deck mounted relative to the first set of wheels to form a first wheeled patient support apparatus; and a second set of wheels mounted to said litter deck, and said litter deck being removable from said first set of wheels and being reconfigurable to thereby form a second wheeled patient support apparatus. 11. The transport apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein said first set of wheels form a wheeled base. 12. The transport apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein said wheeled base includes a lift for raising or lowering said litter deck. 13. The transport apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said lift comprises an X-frame. 14. The transport apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said lift comprises first and second pairs of X-frames, said first and second pairs of X-frames having telescoping legs to tilt said litter deck. 15. The transport apparatus according to claim 12 , further comprising a frame, said frame mounting said litter deck to said first set of wheels. 16. The transport apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said litter deck is reconfigurable between a first configuration and a second configuration. 17. The transport apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein said second configuration comprises a chair configuration. 18. The transfer apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein said litter deck has a foot print when in said second configuration, and said lift being substantially within said foot print of said litter deck when said litter deck is in said second configuration and is mounted to said wheeled base. 19. The transport apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein said deck includes a leg rest. 20. The transport apparatus according to claim 10 , further comprising an extendible head or foot rest to thereby extend the length of said deck.
