Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A hinged slider for a closure assembly of a bag includes a top wall and a pair of legs extending from the top wall. A first leg and a second leg of the pair each includes a top end attached to the top wall and a bottom end opposing the top end. A pair of wings is hingedly attached to the pair of legs. A first wing and a second wing of the pair is each hingedly attached to the bottom end of the first leg and second leg, respectively. The first wing and the second wing hinge upwardly in order (a) to engage the first wing to one of (i) the first leg and (ii) the second wing, (b) to engage the second wing to one of (i) the second leg and (ii) the first wing, and (c) to install the slider onto the closure assembly.

A hinged slider for a closure assembly of a bag, the hinged slider comprising: (A) a top wall; (B) a pair of legs extending from the top wall, wherein (a) a first leg of the pair of legs comprises a top end attached to the top wall and a bottom end opposing the top end, and (b) a second leg of the pair of legs comprises a top end attached to the top wall and a bottom end opposing the top end; and (C) a pair of wings hingedly attached to the pair of legs, wherein (a) a first wing of the pair of wings is hingedly attached to the bottom end of the first leg to hinge upwardly, and (b) a second wing of the pair of wings is hingedly attached to the bottom end of the second leg to hinge upwardly, wherein the first wing and the second wing hinge upwardly in order (a) to engage the first wing to one of (i) the first leg and (ii) the second wing, (b) to engage the second wing to one of (i) the second leg and (ii) the first wing, and (c) to install the slider onto the closure assembly. 2. The slider according to claim 1 , wherein (a) the first wing includes a hinge at a bottom end of the first wing, to hingedly attach the bottom end of the first wing to the bottom end of the first leg, and (b) the second wing includes a hinge at a bottom end of the second wing, to hingedly attach the bottom end of the second wing to the bottom end of the second leg. 3. The slider according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one latching mechanism to engage (a) the first wing to the one of (i) the first leg and (ii) the second wing, and (b) the second wing to the one of (i) the second leg and (ii) the first wing. 4. The slider according to claim 1 , wherein the first wing includes a latch configured to engage with the first leg, and the second wing includes a latch configured to engage with the second leg. 5. The slider according to claim 4 , wherein the top end of the first leg includes an opening configured to receive the latch of the first wing, and the top end of the second leg includes an opening configured to receive the latch of the second wing. 6. The slider according to claim 1 , wherein the first wing includes a latch and the second wing includes an opening, such that the latch of the first wing is configured to engage with the opening of the second wing. 7. The slider according to claim 1 , further comprising a support member that extends from the top wall of the slider and is disposed between the pair of legs and the pair of wings, the support member including a second zipper profile opening member. 8. The slider according to claim 7 , wherein the support member includes at least one retention member for assisting in retaining the slider on the closure assembly. 9. The slider according to claim 7 , further comprising a first zipper profile opening member that extends from the top wall of the slider. 10. The slider according to claim 9 , wherein the first zipper profile opening member is attached to the support member. 11. The slider according to claim 9 , wherein the first zipper profile opening member includes at least one retention member for assisting in retaining the slider on the closure assembly. 12. The slider according to claim 1 , further comprising at least a first closing bar on the first wing and at least a second closing bar on the second wing, wherein the first and second closing bars are configured to occlude closure elements of the closure assembly. 13. The slider according to claim 1 , further comprising a first finger pad on the first wing and a second finger pad on the second wing, wherein the first and second finger pads each has an elliptical shape to provide a slider with an ergonomic feel. 14. The slider according to claim 13 , wherein the major axis dimension of the elliptical shape of the first and second finger pads is from about 12.0 mm to about 19.0 mm, and the minor axis dimension of the elliptical shape of the first and second finger pads is from about 10.5 mm to about 16.0 mm. 15. The slider according to claim 13 , wherein the first and second finger pads each comprises gripping ridges to provide a tactile guide for a user. 16. The slider according to claim 1 , wherein the bottom end of the first leg includes a bottom edge and the first wing is hingedly attached along the bottom edge of the first leg, and wherein the bottom end of the second leg includes a bottom edge and the second wing is hingedly attached along the bottom edge of the second leg. 17. A storage bag comprising: (A) a first sidewall; (B) a second sidewall connected to the first sidewall so as to form an interior of the bag with an opening to the interior; (C) an upper zipper profile positioned adjacent to the opening of the bag, the upper zipper profile comprising (a) a first closure element attached to the first sidewall and (b) a second closure element attached to the second sidewall and extending substantially parallel to the first closure element, the first closure element and the second closure element both extending along the length of the upper zipper profile between a first side of the upper zipper profile and a second side of the upper zipper profile, and the first closure element being configured to interlock with the second closure element to form a seal for the opening of the bag; (D) a lower zipper profile positioned below the upper zipper profile, the lower zipper profile comprising (i) a third closure element attached to the first sidewall and (ii) a fourth closure element attached to the second sidewall and extending substantially parallel to the third closure element, the third closure element and the fourth closure element both extending along the length of the lower zipper profile between a first side of the lower zipper profile and a second side of the lower zipper profile, and the third closure element being configured to interlock with the fourth closure element to form a second seal for the opening of the bag; and (E) a hinged slider positioned in a straddling relation with the upper and lower zipper profiles, the slider including: (a) a top wall; (b) a pair of legs extending from the top wall, wherein (i) a first leg of the pair of legs comprises a top end attached to the top wall and a bottom end opposing the top end, and (ii) a second leg of the pair of legs comprises a top end attached to the top wall and a bottom end opposing the top end; (c) a pair of wings hingedly attached to the pair of legs, wherein (i) a first wing of the pair of wings is hingedly attached to the bottom end of the first leg to hinge upwardly, and (ii) a second wing of the pair of wings is hingedly attached to the bottom end of the second leg to hinge upwardly, and wherein the first wing and the second wing hinge upwardly in order to install the slider onto the upper and lower zipper profiles; and (d) a support member that extends from the top wall of the slider, the support member comprising a first zipper profile opening member and a second zipper profile opening member, such that the second zipper profile opening member is disposed in the area between the upper zipper profile and the lower zipper profile. 18.
