Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A process and apparatus uses a flash drum to separate light hydrocarbons from heavy oligomerate from an oligomerization zone. The heavy oligomerate can bypass a fractionation column in the oligomerate recovery section and be recycled to the oligomerization zone or other zones. Costs are saved by avoiding repeatedly transporting and processing the heavier recycled oligomerate.

The invention claimed is: 1. A process for making oligomers comprising: passing an oligomerization feed stream comprising C 4 and C 5 olefins to an oligomerization zone to oligomerize at least a portion of said olefins in said oligomerization feed stream to produce an oligomerate stream; separating said oligomerate stream in a flash drum to provide a light flash oligomerate stream comprising C 4 hydrocarbons and C 5 hydrocarbons and a heavy flash oligomerate stream comprising C 6 + olefinic hydrocarbons; fractionating said light flash oligomerate stream to provide a product stream comprising at least a portion of said C 5 hydrocarbons; mixing at least a portion of said product stream with at least a portion of said heavy flash oligomerate stream to provide a mixed stream; and recycling at least a portion of said mixed stream to said oligomerization zone. 2. The process of claim 1 further comprising taking a distillate separator feed stream from said mixed stream and separating said distillate separator feed stream into a gasoline stream and a distillate stream. 3. The process of claim 1 further comprising providing a light stream comprising the C 4 hydrocarbons from said fractionating of said light flash oligomerate stream. 4. The process of claim 3 further comprising feeding a second portion of said mixed stream to an FCC zone or taking a distillate separator feed stream from said mixed stream and separating said distillate separator feed stream into a gasoline stream and a distillate stream. 5. The process of claim 3 wherein said fractionating comprises debutanizing said light flash oligomerate stream to provide the light stream. 6. The process of claim 5 further comprising feeding a second portion of said mixed stream to an FCC zone or taking a distillate separator feed stream from said mixed stream and separating said distillate separator feed stream into a gasoline stream and a distillate stream. 7. The process of claim 1 further comprising feeding a second portion of said heavy flash oligomerate stream to an FCC zone or feeding said second portion to a distillate separator and separating said second portion into a gasoline stream and a distillate stream. 8. A process for making oligomers comprising: passing an oligomerization feed stream comprising C 4 and C 5 olefins to an oligomerization zone to oligomerize at least a portion of said olefins in said oligomerization feed stream to produce an oligomerate stream; separating said oligomerate stream in a flash drum to provide a light flash oligomerate stream comprising C 4 hydrocarbons and C 5 hydrocarbons and a heavy flash oligomerate stream comprising C 6 + olefinic hydrocarbons; fractionating said light flash oligomerate stream in a recovery zone to provide a product stream comprising at least a portion of said C 5 hydrocarbons; mixing at least a portion of said product stream with at least a portion of said heavy flash oligomerate stream to provide a mixed stream; recycling at least a portion of said mixed stream to said oligomerization zone; and feeding a second portion of said heavy flash oligomerate stream to an FCC. 9. The process of claim 8 further comprising feeding a third portion of said heavy flash oligomerate stream to a distillate separator and separating said third portion into a gasoline stream and a distillate stream. 10. The process of claim 8 further comprising recycling a second portion of said product stream to said oligomerization zone. 11. The process of claim 8 wherein said fractionation comprises debutanizing said light flash oligomerate stream to provide a light stream comprising the C 4 hydrocarbons and said product stream. 12. The process of claim 11 further comprising taking a distillate separator feed stream from said mixed stream and separating said distillate separator feed stream into a gasoline stream and a distillate stream. 13. A process for making oligomers comprising: passing an oligomerization feed stream comprising C 4 and C 5 olefins to an oligomerization zone to oligomerize at least a portion of said olefins in said oligomerization feed stream to produce an oligomerate stream; separating said oligomerate stream from said oligomerization zone in a flash drum to provide a light flash oligomerate stream comprising C 4 hydrocarbons and C 5 hydrocarbons and a heavy flash oligomerate stream comprising C 6 + olefinic hydrocarbons; fractionating said light flash oligomerate stream in a recovery zone to provide a product stream comprising at least a portion of said C 5 hydrocarbons; mixing at least a portion of said product stream with at least a portion of said heavy flash oligomerate stream to provide a mixed stream; recycling at least a portion of said mixed stream to said oligomerization zone; and taking a distillate separator feed stream from said mixed stream and separating said distillate separator feed stream into a gasoline stream and a distillate stream. 14. The process of claim 13 further comprising feeding a second portion of said mixed stream to an FCC zone. 15. The process of claim 13 wherein said fractionating comprises debutanizing said light flash oligomerate stream to provide a light stream comprising C 4 hydrocarbons and said product stream.
