A coated silver colored colorant includes a silver colored pigment, and a primer polymer at least partially coating the silver colored pigment. The primer polymer has a glass transition temperature that is less than 40° C. A passivating polymer is attached to the primer polymer. The passivating polymer has a glass transition temperature that is greater than 40° C.

What is claimed is: 1. A coated silver colored colorant, comprising: a silver colored pigment; a primer polymer at least partially coating the silver colored pigment, the primer polymer having a glass transition temperature that is equal to or less than 40° C.; and a passivating polymer attached to the primer polymer, the passivating polymer having a glass transition temperature that is greater than 40° C., wherein the primer polymer is selected from the group consisting of an acrylic styrene emulsion polymer. an acrylic emulsion polymer, and a polyurethane polymer, and wherein the passivating polymer is selected from the group consisting of a styrene acrylic emulsion polymer and an acrylic emulsion polymer. 2. The coated silver colored colorant as defined in claim 1 wherein the silver colored pigment maintains its original morphology after the primer polymer and passivating polymer are attached thereto. 3. The coated silver colored colorant as defined in claim 2 wherein the original morphology of the silver colored pigment has a length ranging from about 5 μm to about 10 gm, and wherein the length is maintained after the primer polymer and passivating polymer are attached thereto. 4. The coated silver colored colorant as defined in claim 1 wherein the silver colored pigment is selected from the group consisting of aluminum pigment particles, aluminum pigment flakes, aluminum pigment powders, and combinations thereof. 5. The coated silver colored colorant as defined in claim 1 wherein the primer polymer is a copolymer formed from: a first monomer selected from the group consisting of styrene and methyl methacrylate, and present in an amount ranging from about 10 wt % to about 70 wt %; a second monomer selected from the group consisting of butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, hexyl acrylate, butyl methacrylate, and lauryl methacrylate, and present in an amount ranging from about 30 wt % to about 90 wt %; and a third monomer selected from the group consisting of methacrylic acid and acrylic acid, and present in an amount ranging from about 0 wt % to about 5 wt %. 6. The coated silver colored colorant as defined in claim 1 wherein the passivating polymer is a copolymer formed from: styrene present in an amount ranging from about 25 wt % to about 60 wt %; methyl methacrylate present in an amount ranging from about 25 wt % to about 60 wt %; butyl acrylate present in an amount of about 13 wt %; and methacrylic acid present in an amount of about 2 wt %. 7. A metallic base paste, comprising: a non-polar carrier; a coated silver colored colorant dispersed in the non-polar carrier, the coated silver colored colorant including: a silver colored pigment; a primer polymer at least partially coating the silver colored pigment, the primer polymer having a glass transition temperature that is equal to or less than 40° C.; and a passivating polymer attached to the primer polymer, the passivating polymer having a glass transition temperature that is greater than 40° C.; and a polymer resin attached to the coated silver colored colorant; the metallic base paste having a non-volatile solids content ranging from about 20 wt % to about 75 wt% wherein the primer polymer is selected from the group consisting of an acrylic styrene emulsion polymer. an acrylic emulsion polymer, and a polyurethane polymer, and wherein the passivating polymer is selected from the group consisting of a styrene acrylic emulsion polymer and an acrylic emulsion polymer. 8. The metallic base paste as defined in claim 7 , wherein: the primer polymer is a copolymer formed from: a first monomer selected from the group consisting of styrene and methyl methacrylate, and present in an amount ranging from about 10 wt % to about 70 wt %; a second monomer selected from the group consisting of butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, hexyl acrylate, butyl methacrylate, and lauryl methacrylate, and present in an amount ranging from about 30 wt % to about 90 wt %; and a third monomer selected from the group consisting of methacrylic acid or acrylic acid, and present in an amount ranging from about 0 wt % to about 5 wt %; and the passivating polymer is a copolymer formed from: styrene present in an amount ranging from about 25 wt % to about 60 wt %; methyl methacrylate in an amount ranging from about 25 wt % to about 60 wt %: butyl acrylate present in an amount of about 13 wt %; and methacrylic acid present in an amount of about 2 wt %. 9. A printable metallic liquid electrophotographic (LEP) ink, comprising: the coated silver colored colorant of claim 1 ; a charge director: and a non-polar carrier present in an amount such that the metallic LEP ink has a non-volatile solids content ranging from about 0.1 wt % to about 4 wt %. 10. The printable metallic LEP ink as defined in claim 9 wherein: the silver colored pigment maintains its original length after the primer polymer and passivating polymer are attached thereto; and the coated silver colored colorant has an increased thickness with respect to an original thickness of the silver colored pigment. 11. The printable metallic LEP ink as defined in claim 9 wherein: the silver colored pigment is present in an amount ranging from about 20 wt % to about 50 wt % of a total wt % of the coated silver colored colorant; the primer polymer is present in an amount ranging from about 3 wt % to about 20 wt % of a total wt % of the silver colored pigment; and the passivating polymer is present in an amount ranging from about 30 wt % to about 100 wt % of the total wt % of the silver colored pigment. 12. The printable metallic LEP ink as defined in claim 9 wherein the primer polymer coats at least 60% of a surface of the silver colored pigment. 13. A method of making a metallic base paste, comprising: forming a mixture of a primer polymer, a silver colored pigment, and water; low-shear milling the mixture at an ambient temperature, thereby forming a coating of the primer polymer on at least a portion of the silver colored pigment; adding a passivating polymer to the mixture; continuing to low-shear mill the mixture at the ambient temperature, thereby attaching the passivating polymer to at least some of the coating of the primer polymer and forming a coated silver colored colorant; removing the water from the mixture, thereby separating the coated silver colored colorant; dispersing the coated silver colored colorant in a non-polar carrier to form a dispersion; and mixing a polymer resin in the dispersion, thereby producing the metallic base paste with a non-volatile solids content ranging from about 20 wt % to about 75 wt %. 14. The method as defined in claim 13 , further including adding a predetermined additional amount of non-polar carrier to form a printable metallic liquid electrophotographic (LEP) ink with a non-volatile solids content ranging from about 0.1wt % to about 4 wt %.
