Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A PV module framing and coupling system which enables the attachment of PV modules to a roof or other mounting surface without requiring the use of separate structural support members which attach directly to and span between multiple PV modules in a formed PV array and a cable management system that holds, directs, organizes, and otherwise manages cables, wires, cord, and similar components of and relating to a PV array.

What is claimed as invention is: 1. A photovoltaic module assembly, comprising: a frame supporting a photovoltaic laminate; and a wire clip, comprising: an arm having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, an engaging feature extending from and integrally formed with the first end of the arm, the engaging feature comprising a catch engaged with a first portion of the frame and positioned between the first portion of the frame and a second portion of the frame that contacts the photovoltaic laminate, a wire gather coupled to the arm, and a frame receiving slot, wherein a third portion of the frame is disposed within the frame receiving slot and a fourth portion of the frame is positioned between the frame receiving slot and the engaging feature. 2. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first end of the arm comprises a trigger connecting the engaging feature to the arm. 3. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the wire gather protrudes from the second end of the arm toward the photovoltaic laminate. 4. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 1 , further comprising: a brace that protrudes laterally from a central region of the arm, a distal end of the brace contacting the frame to establish a standoff distance between the arm and the frame. 5. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 1 , wherein the frame receiving slot is positioned closer to the first end of the arm than the second end of the arm. 6. A photovoltaic module assembly, comprising: a wire clip, comprising: an arm having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, a plurality of gathers defining a wire channel positioned at the first end of the arm, a frame receiving slot, and an engaging feature at the second end of the arm, the engaging feature comprising a catch; and a frame supporting a photovoltaic laminate, the frame comprising a first portion disposed within the frame receiving slot and a second portion positioned outside of the frame receiving slot and engaged by the catch, wherein one or more gathers of the plurality of gathers protrude from the arm toward the photovoltaic laminate. 7. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 6 , wherein the frame receiving slot is positioned closer to the first end of the arm than the second end of the arm. 8. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 6 , wherein the second end of the arm comprises a trigger that includes a protrusion extending away from engaging feature. 9. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 8 , wherein the trigger is configured to receive a force that pivots the catch of the engaging feature until the catch is withdrawn from a groove defined by the second portion of the frame during removal of the wire clip from the frame. 10. A photovoltaic module assembly, comprising: a frame supporting a photovoltaic laminate; and a wire clip, comprising: an arm having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, an engaging feature extending from the first end of the arm, the engaging feature comprising a catch engaged with a first portion of the frame, a wire gather, at least a portion of the wire gather protruding from the second end of the arm toward the photovoltaic laminate, and a frame receiving slot, wherein a second portion of the frame is disposed within the frame receiving slot and a third portion of the frame is positioned between the frame receiving slot and the engaging feature. 11. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 10 , wherein the engaging feature is integrally formed with the first end of the arm. 12. The photovoltaic module assembly of claim 10 , wherein the first portion of the frame engaged by the catch is disposed between the second portion of the frame and a fourth portion of the frame that contacts the photovoltaic laminate.
