Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a particulate polymer of a monomer mixture comprising (a) an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer; (b) at least one of (b-1) an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer with the alkyl group having a carbon number of 15 to 24 and the alkyl group being a linear alkyl group and (b-2) an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer with the alkyl group having a carbon number of 15 to 24 and the alkyl group being a branched alkyl group; and (c) a monoolefinically unsaturated monomer having a ketone group with the alkyl group having a carbon number of 8 to 14. Pressure sensitive adhesive tapes incorporating such adhesive compositions are also described.

What is claimed is: 1. A pressure-sensitive adhesive composition comprising (A) a particulate polymer of a monomer mixture comprising: from 20 to 55 mass % of (a) an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer with an alkyl group having a carbon number of 8 to 14, from 20 to 35 mass % of (b-1) an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer with an alkyl group having a carbon number of 15 to 24 wherein the alkyl group is a linear alkyl group, from 5 to 35 mass % of (b-2) an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer with an alkyl group having a carbon number of 15 to 24 wherein the alkyl group is a branched alkyl group, and from 2 to 5 mass % of (c) a monoolefinically unsaturated monomer having a ketone group, said percentages each being based on the total amount of the monomers (a), (b-1), (b-2), and (c), wherein the monomer mixture is polymerized in the presence of water; and (B) an initiator having low solubility in water. 2. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein monomer (a) is selected from the group consisting of 2-ethylhexyl (meth)acrylate, isooctyl (meth)acrylate, isononyl (meth)acrylate, isodecyl (meth)acrylate and isobornyl (meth)acrylate. 3. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein monomer (b-1) is selected from the group consisting of cetyl (meth)acrylate and stearyl (meth)acrylate. 4. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein monomer (b-2) is selected from the group consisting of alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer with the alkyl group having a carbon number of 16 or 18. 5. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein monomer (c) is selected from the group consisting of diacetone (meth)acrylamide, acryloylbenzophenone, vinyl methyl ketone, vinyl ethyl ketone and vinyl isobutyl ketone. 6. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 5 wherein monomer (c) is diacetone (meth)acrylamide. 7. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein the particle polymer of a monomer mixture (A) further comprises 0.1 to 0.5 mass % of an internal crosslinking agent based on the total mass of the monomers (a), (b-1), (b-2), (c) and the internal crosslinking agent. 8. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 7 wherein the internal crosslinking agent is a (meth)acrylic acid ester of diol. 9. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein the particle polymer of a monomer mixture (A) further comprises an external crosslinking agent. 10. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein the particle polymer of a monomer mixture (A) further comprises 0.1 to 0.5 mass % of an internal crosslinking agent, wherein the percentage of the internal crosslinking agent is based on the total mass of the monomers (a), (b-1), (b-2), (c), and the internal crosslinking agent; and an external crosslinking agent. 11. A layer of the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition of claim 1 wherein a thickness of the adhesive layer ranges from 3 μm to 150 μm.
