What is claimed is: 1. An article of footwear, comprising: an upper defining a medial side, a lateral side, a rear heel area, and an ankle opening; a rear heel strap member engaged with or integrally formed with the rear heel area of the upper, wherein the rear heel strap member includes: (a) a rear heel element, (b) a lateral side strap element that extends from the rear heel element and along the lateral side of the ankle opening, wherein the lateral side strap element includes a free end, and (c) a medial side strap element that extends from the rear heel element and along the medial side of the ankle opening wherein the medial side strap element includes a free end; a first strap member extending along the medial side of the upper to a medial midfoot area of the upper, wherein the first strap member includes at least one structure for engaging a lace, and wherein the first strap member further includes a free end located at a medial heel area of the upper; a second strap member extending along the lateral side of the upper, along a lateral midfoot area of the upper, and to a lateral forefoot area of the upper, wherein the second strap member includes at least two structures for engaging the lace, and wherein the second strap member further includes a free end located at a lateral heel area of the upper; a first tensioning ring engaged with the free of the first strap member, wherein the free end of the medial side strap element extends through the first tensioning ring to engage the medial side strap element with the first strap member; a second tensioning ring engaged with the free end of the second strap member, wherein the free end of the lateral side strap element extends through the second tensioning ring to engage the lateral side strap element with the second strap member; and a sole structure engaged with the upper. 2. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the first strap member includes only one structure for engaging the lace and the second strap member includes only two structures for engaging the lace. 3. An article of footwear according to claim 2 , wherein the two structures for engaging the lace provided with the second strap member are located closer to a forward-most location of the article of footwear than the structure for engaging the lace provided with the first strap member. 4. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the upper includes structures for engaging the lace that are not included as part of the first strap member or the second strap member. 5. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , further comprising: a lace engaged with the upper, engaged with the structure or structures for engaging the lace provided with the first strap member, and engaged with the structures for engaging the lace provided with the second strap member. 6. An article of footwear according to claim 5 , wherein the upper includes a bootie element for receiving a wearer's foot, wherein the bootie element is exposed in an instep area across a midfoot area of the upper and lies directly beneath at least portions of the lace as the lace extends across the midfoot area of the upper. 7. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the upper includes a bootie element for receiving a wearer's foot. 8. An article of footwear according to claim 7 , wherein the upper further includes a shell member that at least partially covers the bootie element, and wherein the shell member partially underlies the first strap member and the second strap member. 9. An article of footwear according to claim 8 , wherein the shell member includes plural structures for engaging a lace that are separate from the structures for engaging a lace provided with the first and second strap members. 10. An article of footwear according to claim 7 , wherein the bootie element is exposed in an instep area across a midfoot area of the upper. 11. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the first strap member includes only one structure for engaging the lace and the second strap member includes only two separate structures for engaging the lace, wherein the structure for engaging the lace of the first strap member defines a first tunnel through which a lace passes, and wherein the two structures for engaging the lace of the second strap member define a second tunnel and a third tunnel through which the lace passes. 12. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first strap member and the second strap member includes support fibers or wires attached to or embedded in it. 13. An article of footwear according to claim 12 , wherein the upper further includes a bootie element for receiving a wearer's foot and a shell member that at least partially covers the bootie element, wherein the shell member includes plural structures for engaging a lace that are separate from the structures for engaging a lace provided with the first and second strap members, and wherein the structures for engaging a lace and the support fibers or wires attached to or embedded in the first strap member and the second strap member are arranged so that a pull direction of the lace, when the lace is tightened, substantially aligns with the support fibers or wires. 14. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the upper further includes a bootie element for receiving a wearer's foot and a shell member that at least partially covers the bootie element, wherein the shell member includes plural structures for engaging a lace that are separate from the structures for engaging a lace provided with the first and second strap members, and wherein the structures for engaging a lace are arranged so that the lace will extend across an instep area of the upper in a lateral-front to medial-rear direction. 15. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the sole structure includes a first cleat, wherein the first cleat includes: a cleat base, wherein an outer perimeter of the cleat base constitutes a closed geometric shape having from three to five inwardly curved sides and three to five corner regions joining adjacent sides; a cleat end surface, wherein an outer perimeter of the cleat end surface constitutes a closed geometric shape having from three to five inwardly curved sides and three to five corner regions joining adjacent sides, wherein the closed geometric shape of the cleat base has the same number of sides and corner regions as the closed geometric shape of the cleat end surface, and wherein the closed geometric shape of the cleat end surface encloses a smaller area than the closed geometric shape of the cleat base; and a cleat body extending between the cleat base and the cleat end surface, wherein the cleat body includes a plurality of edges, wherein each edge of the plurality of edges extends between a corner region of the cleat base and a corresponding corner region of the cleat end surface. 16. An article of footwear according to claim 15 , wherein each of the plurality of edges of the cleat body is curved. 17. An article of footwear according to claim 15 , wherein each of the cleat base and the cleat end surface has four sides and four corner regions, and wherein the cleat body includes four edges joining the respective four corner regions of the cleat base and the cleat end surface. 18. An article of footwear according to claim 15 , wherein the cleat body has side walls extending between adjacent edges of the cleat body, and wherein the cleat body side walls are inwardly curved. 19. An article of footwear ac
