What is claimed is: 1. A method of treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Parkinson's disease comprising administering to an individual in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of non-genetically modified GDNF-secreting cells which are ex vivo differentiated from human mesenchymal stem cells, wherein said GDNF-secreting cells express glutamate transporter 1 (GLT1), wherein said GDNF-secreting cells express CD90 and wherein a secretion of said GDNF is at least 5 times greater than a basal secretion of said GDNF in a non-differentiated, non-genetically modified human mesenchymal stem cell, thereby treating ALS or Parkinson's. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said cells which secrete GDNF are autologous to said individual. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said cells which secrete GDNF are non-autologous to said individual.
