What is claimed is: 1. An isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof that specifically binds to the Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) ClfA surface determinant antigen, wherein the isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof comprises a heavy chain variable region (VH) and a light chain variable region VL [(VH)], each of which comprises three complementarity determining regions (CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3) and wherein: a. a VH CDR1 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 133; b. a VH CDR2 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 134; and c. a VH CDR3 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 135; and d. a VL CDR1 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 137; e. a VL CDR2 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 138; and f. a VL CDR3 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 139. 2. An isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof of claim 1 , wherein the VH amino acid sequence is 100% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 132 and the VL amino acid sequence is 100% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 136. 3. A composition comprising the isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof of claim 1 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. 4. An isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof that specifically binds to the Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) ClfA surface determinant antigen, wherein the isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof comprises a heavy chain variable region (VH) and a light chain variable region VL [(VH)], each of which comprises three complementarity determining regions (CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3) and wherein: a. a VH CDR1 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 141; b. a VH CDR2 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 142; and c. a VH CDR3 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 143; and d. a VL CDR1 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 145; e. a VL CDR2 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 146; and f. a VL CDR3 is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 147. 5. An isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof of claim 4 , wherein the VH amino acid sequence is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 140 and the VL amino acid sequence is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 144. 6. A composition comprising the isolated antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof of claim 4 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
