A method of atomizing a fluid using a pair of counter-rotating rollers including a first roller having grooves, the grooves enclosed by a pair of fins extending away from the first surface and a second roller having channels, the first and second rollers aligned with each other such that the grooves of the first roller mate with the channels of the second roller forming enclosures and nips. The method includes drawing the fluid from a fluid source through the nips, the nips having an upstream side and a downstream side, stretching the fluid between the diverging surfaces of the pair of counter-rotating rollers on the downstream side of the nips to form fluid filaments, and forming fluid droplets from the stretched fluid filaments on the downstream side of the nips between the diverging surfaces of the pair of counter-rotating rollers.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of atomizing a fluid using a pair of counter-rotating rollers including a first roller having a plurality of grooves disposed across a first surface of the first roller, the grooves enclosed by a pair of fins extending away from the first surface and a second roller having a plurality of channels disposed across a second surface, the first and second rollers aligned with each other such that the plurality of grooves of the first roller mate with the plurality of channels of the second roller forming a plurality of enclosures and a plurality of nips defined between the first surface of the first roller and the second surface of the second roller, the method comprising: drawing the fluid from a fluid source through the plurality of nips, the plurality of nips having an upstream side and a downstream side; stretching the fluid between the diverging surfaces of the pair of counter-rotating rollers on the downstream side of the plurality of nips to form a plurality of fluid filaments; expelling at least a quantity of air from a plurality of air tubes, each air tube extending through a corresponding one of the plurality of enclosures and directing the air towards the downstream side of each of the plurality of nips; forming a plurality of fluid droplets from the plurality of stretched fluid filaments on the downstream side of the plurality of nips between the diverging surfaces of the pair of counter-rotating rollers. 2. The method of atomizing a fluid of claim 1 further comprising dispensing the fluid from a feed system, the feed system including a plurality of feed tubes in fluid communication with a common feed fluid delivery rail, the plurality of feed tubes aligned with the first surface the first roller and configured to dispense at least a quantity of fluid onto the first surface of the first roller. 3. The method of claim 1 further comprising heating the fluid. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein heating the fluid comprises heating the common feed fluid delivery rail.
