Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A stent for transluminal implantation comprises a first, second and third stent section for splinting and/or keeping open a hollow organ which are connected to each other via elastic tubular sections. The stent combines at least three different stent designs in one stent and can therefore be adjusted to the motion behavior of a hollow organ in an improved fashion.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A stent having a first end, a second end, and a stent length extending longitudinally between the first and second ends, the stent comprising: a first woven or braided tubular stent section; a second woven or braided tubular stent section; a third woven or braided tubular stent section; wherein the first stent section is positioned between the second and third stent sections, wherein the first stent section is spaced apart from the second stent section by a first gap and the first stent section is spaced apart from the third stent section by a second gap; and a flexible plastic material within which the first stent section, the second stent section and the third stent section are embedded, the flexible plastic material forming a first elastic tubular section and a second elastic tubular section, the first elastic tubular section extending between the first stent section and the second stent section and spanning the first gap between the first stent section and the second stent section, the second elastic tubular section extending between the first stent section and the third stent section and spanning the second gap between the first stent section and the third stent section. 2. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first, second and third stent sections are connected to one another only by the flexible plastic material. 3. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first, second and third stent sections are formed of a first material, wherein the first and second elastic tubular sections are devoid of the first material. 4. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first and second gaps each extend circumferentially around the stent. 5. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first stent section is formed of one or more filaments, wherein the one or more filaments do not extend to the second and third stent sections. 6. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first stent section has an outer diameter, and each of the second and third stent sections has an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the first stent section. 7. The stent of claim 6 , wherein the first elastic tubular section has an outer diameter that increases from the outer diameter of the first stent section to the outer diameter of the second stent section. 8. The stent of claim 7 , wherein the second elastic tubular section has an outer diameter that increases from the outer diameter of the first stent section to the outer diameter of the third stent section. 9. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first elastic tubular section consists of the flexible plastic material. 10. The stent of claim 9 , wherein the second elastic tubular section consists of the flexible plastic material. 11. A stent comprising: a plastic material; at least one filament; and a plurality of stent sections spaced apart along a longitudinal axis of the stent, the stent sections formed of a first material and separated from one another by a spacer segment formed of the plastic material and the at least one filament, wherein the plurality of stent sections is embedded within the plastic material and wherein the plurality of spacer segments are devoid of the first material. 12. The stent of claim 11 , wherein the at least one filament extends continuously along each of the plurality of stent sections and between each of the plurality of stent sections. 13. The stent of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of stent sections include a first stent section positioned between second and third stent sections, wherein the first stent section has an outer diameter, and each of the second and third stent sections has an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the first stent section. 14. The stent of claim 11 , wherein each stent section is a mesh of metal or plastic filaments. 15. The stent of claim 11 , wherein the at least one filament extends beyond the plurality of stent sections. 16. A stent having a first end and a second end, the stent comprising: first, second, and third stent sections formed of a first material and spaced apart by gaps longitudinally along the stent, the first stent section positioned between the second and third stent sections, the second stent section extending to the first end of the stent and the third stent section extending to the second end of the stent; and a flexible plastic material within which the first stent section, the second stent section and the third stent section are embedded, the flexible plastic material forming a first elastic tubular section and a second elastic tubular section, the first elastic tubular section extending between the first stent section and the second stent section and spanning the a gap between the first stent section and the second stent section, the second elastic tubular section extending between the first stent section and the third stent section and spanning a second gap between the first stent section and the second stent section; wherein each of the first and second gaps is devoid of the first material. 17. The stent of claim 16 , wherein both of the second and third stent sections have a greater diameter than a diameter of the first stent section. 18. The stent of claim 16 , wherein the plastic material surrounds the first, second, and third stent sections and extends along an entire length of the stent. 19. The stent of claim 16 , wherein each of the first, second, and third stent sections are braided sections. 20. The stent of claim 16 , further comprising a valve located at the first end of the stent.
