A defibration unit includes a rotating unit and a fixing unit. The rotating unit and the fixing unit are arranged so as to be apart from each other with a gap therebetween in a direction that intersects with a rotating shaft of the rotating unit. The fixing unit includes a plurality of plates that are layered in an axial direction of the rotating shaft, and the plates has a plurality of convexities that protrude at a side facing the rotating unit.

What is claimed is: 1. A defibration unit configured to cause a rotating unit to rotate inside of a fixing unit and dry-defibrate a material to be defibrated, the defibration unit comprising: the rotating unit including a rotating shaft and a plurality of protruding sections, the rotating shaft being located at a side of a central rotation axis of the rotating unit, the protruding sections protruding out in a direction drawing away from the central rotation axis; and the fixing unit including a plurality of plates that are layered in an axial direction of the rotating shaft, the plates having a plurality of convexities that protrude at a side facing the rotating unit, the fixing unit being spaced apart from the rotating unit in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the rotating shaft so as to form a gap between the rotating unit and the fixing unit. 2. The defibration unit according to claim 1 , wherein the plates of the fixing unit are layered such that the convexities of adjacent plates among the plates are contacted to each other.
