The present invention provides a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, containing a 1,3-diphenylurea derivative or multikinase inhibitor.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of inhibiting the expression of human SOD1 in a cell by administering sorafenib or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to the cell, wherein the human SOD1 is mutated SOD1. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein sorafenib is administered. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein sorafenib tosylate is administered. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cell is in a subject suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) accompanied by a mutation in SOD1. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein sorafenib is administered. 6. The method of claim 4 , wherein sorafenib tosylate is administered.
