Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A rail and carrier system for first and second removable seats for a motor vehicle includes two lower rails fixedly attached to and positioned laterally along a floor of the motor vehicle. Two upper rails are nested with and laterally slidable within each of the first lower rails. Cross brackets are laterally spaced apart and arranged perpendicular to the upper rails. Covers are connected to and extend between the cross brackets. Spacers are located laterally between upper rails within the lower rails. The spacers include a first shoe located in the lower rail, a second shoe located in the lower rail, and a first bracket connecting the first shoe and second shoe. The first and second shoes prevent the upper rails from contacting each other.

What is claimed is: 1. A rail and carrier system for first and second removable seats for a motor vehicle, comprising: a first lower rail fixedly attached to and positioned laterally along a floor of the motor vehicle; a first upper rail nested with and laterally slidable within the first lower rail; a second upper rail nested with and laterally slidable within the first lower rail; a second lower rail positioned laterally along the floor of the motor vehicle parallel to the first lower rail and longitudinally spaced from the first lower rail; a third upper rail nested with and laterally slidable within the second lower rail; a fourth upper rail nested with and laterally slidable within the second lower rail; first and second cross brackets laterally spaced apart and arranged perpendicular to the first and third upper rails, the first and second cross brackets being connected to the first and third upper rails; third and fourth cross brackets laterally spaced apart arranged perpendicular to the second and fourth upper rails, the third and fourth cross brackets being connected to the second and fourth upper rails; a first cover connected to and extending between the first and second cross brackets; a second cover connected to and extending between the third and fourth cross brackets; and, a first spacer located laterally between the first cover and the second cover within the first lower rail, the first spacer comprising: a first shoe located in the first lower rail; a second shoe located in the first lower rail; a first bracket connecting the first shoe and second shoe; and wherein the first and second shoes prevent the first and second upper rails from contacting each other. 2. The rail and carrier system of claim 1 wherein the first spacer is laterally slidable within the first lower rail. 3. The rail and carrier system of claim 2 wherein the first bracket is constructed of a metal. 4. The rail and carrier system of claim 3 wherein the first and second shoes are constructed of low friction plastic. 5. The rail and carrier system of claim 1 further comprising: a second spacer located laterally between the first cover and the second cover within the second lower rail, the second spacer comprising: a third shoe located in the second lower rail; a fourth shoe located in the second lower rail; a second bracket connecting the third shoe and fourth shoe; and wherein the third and fourth shoes prevent the third and fourth upper rails from contacting each other. 6. The rail and carrier system of claim 5 wherein the first spacer is laterally slidable within the first lower rail and the second spacer is laterally slidable with the second lower rail. 7. The rail and carrier system of claim 6 wherein the first bracket and the second bracket are constructed of a metal. 8. The rail and carrier system of claim 7 wherein the first, second, third, and fourth shoes are constructed of low friction plastic.
