A jigsaw that includes a housing assembly, a shoe member and an indicator. The housing assembly has a housing, a motor and transmission assembly received in the housing, an output member reciprocatingly driven by the motor and transmission assembly, and a trigger coupled to the housing and configured to control operation of the motor and transmission assembly. The housing defines a window. The shoe member is pivotally coupled to the housing. The indicator is pivotally disposed in the housing. A portion of the indicator is visible through the window. Movement of the indicator is responsive to movement of the shoe member such that a rotational position of the indicator is indicative of a position of the shoe member relative to the housing assembly.

What is claimed is: 1. A jigsaw comprising: a housing assembly with a housing, a motor and transmission assembly received in the housing, an output member reciprocatingly driven by the motor and transmission assembly, and a trigger coupled to the housing and configured to control operation of the motor and transmission assembly; a shoe member pivotally coupled to the housing; and an indicator rotatably disposed in the housing, wherein the housing defines a window, wherein a portion of the indicator is visible through the window and wherein movement of the indicator is responsive to movement of the shoe member such that a rotational position of the indicator is indicative of a position of the shoe member relative to the housing assembly; and further comprising a plurality of first gear teeth coupled to the indicator. 2. The jigsaw of claim 1 , wherein the indicator is disposed about a fluid conduit. 3. The jigsaw of claim 1 , wherein the fluid conduit and the indicator are coupled to one another for common rotation. 4. The jigsaw of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of second gear teeth are coupled to the shoe member and wherein the second gear teeth are meshingly engaged with the first gear teeth. 5. The jigsaw of claim 4 , wherein the second gear teeth and the shoe member are unitarily formed. 6. The jigsaw of claim 5 , wherein the detent mechanism comprises a detent structure and a detent follower, the detent structure being coupled to the second gear teeth and having a plurality of detent recesses, the detent follower being biased into engagement with the detent structure. 7. The jigsaw of claim 4 , wherein the second gear teeth are assembled to the shoe member. 8. The jigsaw of claim 7 , further comprising a locking mechanism for selectively locking the shoe member relative to the housing assembly, wherein the follower is mounted to the locking mechanism. 9. The jigsaw of claim 4 , further comprising a detent mechanism that is configured to resist pivoting motion of the shoe member relative to the housing assembly. 10. The jigsaw of claim 1 , wherein the indicator comprises an annular structure onto which indicia are disposed. 11. The jigsaw of claim 1 , further comprising a reference indicium on the housing proximate the window. 12. A jigsaw comprising: a housing assembly with a housing, a motor and transmission assembly received in the housing, an output member reciprocatingly driven by the motor and transmission assembly, and a trigger coupled to the housing and configured to control operation of the motor and transmission assembly; a shoe member pivotally coupled to the housing; a locking mechanism for selectively locking the shoe member relative to the housing assembly; an indicator rotatably disposed in the housing, wherein the housing defines a window, wherein a portion of the indicator is visible through the window and wherein movement of the indicator is responsive to movement of the shoe member such that a rotational position of the indicator is indicative of a position of the shoe member relative to the housing assembly; a plurality of first gear teeth coupled to the indicator; a plurality of second gear teeth are coupled to the shoe member and wherein the second gear teeth are meshingly engaged with the first gear teeth; and a detent mechanism that is configured to resist pivoting motion of the shoe member relative to the housing assembly, the detent mechanism comprising a detent structure and a detent follower, the detent structure being coupled to the second gear teeth and having a plurality of detent recesses, the detent follower being biased into engagement with the detent structure. 13. The jigsaw of claim 12 , wherein the second gear teeth and the shoe member are unitarily formed. 14. The jigsaw of claim 12 , wherein the second gear teeth are assembled to the shoe member. 15. The jigsaw of claim 12 , wherein the follower is mounted to the locking mechanism. 16. The jigsaw of claim 12 , further comprising a reference indicium on the housing proximate the window. 17. The jigsaw of claim 12 , wherein the indicator is disposed about a fluid conduit. 18. The jigsaw of claim 17 , wherein the fluid conduit and the indicator are coupled to one another for common rotation.
