A device, system, and method for communicating with a power inverter of an array of inverters includes transmitting a relay message from an inverter array controller to a relay inverter in response to failing to receive a response from at least one power inverter of the array. The relay inverter is configured to retransmit a message from the inverter array controller to a non-responsive power inverter of the array of inverters in response to receiving the relay message. The relay inverter may subsequently retransmit a reply received from the non-responsive power inverter to the inverter array controller or to another power inverter of the array of inverters.

The invention claimed is: 1. An array controller for maintaining and communicating with an array of power converters, the array controller comprising: a power line communication circuitry to communicate with the array of power converters over a power line connecting the array controller to each of the power converters of the array of power converters; a processing circuitry; and a memory device having a plurality of instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the processing circuitry, causes the array controller to: transmit, by the power line communication circuitry, a first message to a first power converter of the array of power converters; determine whether a response was received from the first power converter; transmit, by the power line circuitry and in response to failure to receive the response from the first power converter, a relay message to a second power converter of the array of power converters, wherein the relay message includes an instruction to the second converter to transmit the first message to the first power converter; and receiving, with the power line circuitry and from the second power converter, a response message transmitted to the second power converter from the first power converter, wherein the response message is indicative of a response of the first power converter to the first message. 2. The array controller of claim 1 , wherein at least one power converter of the array of power converters is a direct current to direct current (DC-DC) power converter. 3. The array controller of claim 1 , wherein at least one power converter of the array of power converters is an alternating current to direct current (AC-DC) power converter. 4. The array controller of claim 1 , wherein at least one power converter of the array of power converters is a direct current to alternating current (DC-AC) power inverter. 5. The array controller of claim 1 , wherein failure to receive the response from the first power converter is indicative of a communication null. 6. The array controller of claim 1 , wherein the first message is a broadcast message to each power converter of the array of power converters that requests each power converter to respond to the broadcast message. 7. The array controller of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions further causes the array controller to select the second power converter to receive the relay message from the array of power converters based on a signal characteristic of a communication received from the second power converter. 8. The array controller of claim 7 , wherein to select the second power converter comprises to: identify the first power converter that did not respond to the first message; and select the second power converter based on the identity of the first power converter. 9. The array controller of claim 8 , wherein to identify the first power converter comprises to identify the location of the first power converter, relative to the other power converters, within the array of power converters. 10. The array controller of claim 1 , wherein to transmit the relay message comprises to: transmit a first relay message to the second power converter that instructs the second power converter to echo the next received message; and transmit a second relay message, including the first message, to the second power converter. 11. A power converter of an array of power converters, each power converter being configured to convert an input power generated by a power source to an output power, the power converter comprising: a power line communication circuitry to communicate with an array controller over a power line that connects the power converter to the array controller and other power converters of the array of power converters; a converter circuit to convert the input power to the output power; a converter controller to control operation of the converter circuit, the converter controller comprising: a processor; and a memory having a plurality of instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by the processor, causes the converter controller to: receive a message from the array controller with the power line communication circuitry; determine whether the message is a relay message; retransmit, by the power line communication circuit and in response to a determination that the message is a relay message, the relay message to a non-responsive power converter of the array of power converters that has not responded to a previous communication from the array controller; receive, with the power line communication circuit and in response to transmittal of the relay message, a response from the non-responsive power converter; and transmit the response, by the power line communication circuit, to the array controller. 12. The power converter of claim 11 , wherein the input power is a first direct current (DC) power and the output power is a second DC power different from the first DC power. 13. The power converter of claim 11 , wherein the input power is an alternating current (AC) power and the output power is a direct current (DC) power. 14. The power converter of claim 11 , wherein the input power is a direct current (DC) power and the output power is an alternating current (AC) power. 15. The power converter of claim 11 , wherein to retransmit the relay message comprises to identify the non-responsive power converter as a function of the relay message. 16. The power converter of claim 15 , wherein to retransmit the relay message comprises to: extract a first message from the relay message, the first message having been previously sent by the array controller; and transmit the first message to the non-responsive power converter. 17. The power converter of claim 11 , wherein the relay message is a second relay message, and the plurality of instructions further causes the converter controller to: receive a first relay message from the array controller that instructs the power converter to echo the next received message from the array controller; and receive the second relay message from the array controller, wherein to retransmit the relay message comprises to retransmit, in response to receiving the first and second relay messages, the second relay message to the non-responsive power converter of the array of power converters. 18. A method for communicating with an array of power converters, the method comprising: transmitting, by a power line communication circuitry, a first message to a power converter of the array of power converters; transmitting, by the power line communication circuitry and in response to failing to receive a response from the power converter, a relay message to another power converter of the array of power converters, the relay message including an instruction to the another converter to transmit the first message to the power converter; and receiving, with the power line circuitry and from the another power converter, a response message transmitted to the another power converter from the power converter, wherein the response message is indicative of a response of the power converter to the first message. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein at least one power converter of the array of power converters is one of a direct current to direct current (DC-DC) power converter or an alternating current to direct current (AC-DC) power converter. 20.
