A facet joint replacement system includes an inferior implant with an inferior articular surface, and a superior implant with a superior articular surface. The implants may be coupled together by a detachable coupler which can align and rigidly hold the inferior and superior articular surfaces in a preferred alignment relative to one another. In one method of implantation, the superior and inferior implants may be aligned and coupled together with the coupler, and then secured to fixation members anchored in adjacent vertebrae. Alternatively, a first implant may be secured to a fixation member anchored in a first vertebra, and a second implant coupled to the coupler, aligned with the first implant and then secured to a fixation member anchored in a second vertebra. A tool may grip, position and/or deliver the coupler and the implants.

What is claimed is: 1. A system comprising: an inferior implant for securing to a first vertebra of a spine, the inferior implant having at least one tube; a superior implant for securing to a second vertebra of the spine; and a coupler coupled to the superior implant and the inferior implant, wherein the coupler comprises a clip having a first end and a second end, the first end and the second end being linked by a connecting portion, the coupler having a first post extending from the first end and a second post extending from the second end, wherein the first and second posts are deformable such that each comprise a slot extending partially along an exterior surface thereof, wherein at least one of the first and second posts are configured to be inserted into the at least one tube to align the inferior implant with the superior implant wherein the first and second posts include flexible split ends that extend outside of the at least one tube. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the superior implant comprises a superior articular surface shaped to replace a natural superior articular surface of a first vertebra of the spine. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the inferior implant comprises an inferior articular surface shaped to replace a natural inferior articular surface of a second vertebra of the spine. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the inferior implant comprises a concave interior cavity. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the clip comprises a pair of inferior posts for insertion into the inferior implant and a pair of superior posts for insertion into the superior implant. 6. The system of claim 5 , further comprising a delivery tool configured to engage the coupler. 7. A system comprising: an inferior implant for securing to a first vertebra of a spine, the inferior implant having at least one tube; a superior implant for securing to a second vertebra of the spine; and a coupler coupled to the superior implant and the inferior implant, wherein the coupler has first and second posts, wherein the first and second posts are deformable such that each comprise a slot extending partially along an exterior surface thereof, wherein at least one of the first and second posts are configured to be inserted into the at least one tube to align the inferior implant with the superior implant, wherein the first and second posts include flexible split ends that extend outside of the at least one tube. 8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the superior implant comprises a superior articular surface and the inferior implant comprises an inferior articular surface. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the inferior implant comprises an inferior strut and an attachment mechanism that adjustably secures the inferior articular surface to the inferior strut. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the attachment mechanism comprises a locking member having a threaded conical expander. 11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the inferior implant comprises a concave interior cavity. 12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the coupler comprises a pair of inferior posts for insertion into the inferior implant and a pair of superior posts for insertion into the superior implant. 13. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a delivery tool configured to engage the coupler. 14. A system comprising: an inferior implant for securing to a first vertebra of a spine, the inferior implant comprising an inferior articular surface, and the inferior implant having at least one tube extending therethrough; a superior implant for securing to a second vertebra of the spine, the superior implant comprising a superior articular surface; and a coupler coupled to the superior implant and the inferior implant, wherein the coupler has first and second posts, wherein the first and second posts are deformable such that each comprise a slot extending partially along an exterior surface thereof, wherein at least one of the first and second posts are configured to be inserted into the at least one tube to align the inferior implant with the superior implant, wherein the first and second posts include flexible split ends that extend outside of the at least one tube. 15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the inferior implant comprises an inferior strut and an attachment mechanism that adjustably secures the inferior articular surface to the inferior strut. 16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the superior implant comprises a superior strut and an attachment mechanism that adjustably secures the superior articular surface to the superior strut. 17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the inferior implant comprises a concave interior cavity. 18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the coupler comprises a pair of inferior posts for insertion into the inferior implant. 19. The system of claim 14 , wherein the coupler comprises a pair of superior posts for insertion into the superior implant. 20. The system of claim 14 , further comprising a delivery tool configured to engage the coupler.
