A synergistic microbicidal composition containing synergistic combinations of a phenolic compound selected the class consisting of chlorinated phenols, monosubstituted phenols, fused bicyclic phenols, isopropyl methyl catechols and monosubstituted catechols and an antimicrobial alcohol selected from the class consisting of propen-2yl-methyl-cyclohexanols, menthadiene alcohols and substituted cyclohexyl propyl-1,3-diols.

The invention claimed is: 1. A synergistic microbicidal composition comprising: (a) at least one microbicide selected from the group consisting of 4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol, 2-hydroxydiphenylmethane, 4-hydroxydiphenylmethane, 2-cyclopentylphenol, 4-cyclopentylphenol, 3-isopropyl-6-methylbenzene-1,2-diol and 4-tert-butylbenzene-1,2-diol; and (b) 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol; wherein a weight ratio of 4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol is from 1/0.25 to 1/3.5, a weight ratio of 2-hydroxydiphenylmethane to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol is from 1/0.03 to 1/0.10 or 1/0.15 to 1/1.75, a weight ratio of 4-hydroxydiphenylmethane to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol is from 1/0.1 to 1/4.4, a weight ratio of 2-cyclopentylphenol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol is from 1/0.05 to 1/0.13 or 1/0.25 to 1/3.5, a weight ratio of 4-cyclopentylphenol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol is from 1/0.06 to 1/0.19 or 1/0.25 to 1/4.38, a weight ratio of 4-tert-butylbenzene-1,2-diol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol is from 1/0.03 to 1/0.09 or 1/0.88 to 1/1.75 and a weight ratio of 3-isopropyl-6-methylbenzene-1,2-diol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol is from 1/0.03 to 1/0.09 or 1/0.88 to 1/1.75. 2. The synergistic microbicidal composition of claim 1 wherein the microbicide is 4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol and 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-2-enol in a weight ratio from 1/0.25 to 1/3.5. 3. A synergistic microbicidal composition comprising: (a) at least one microbicide selected from the group consisting of 3-isopropyl-6-methylbenzene-1,2-diol, 2-hydroxydiphenylmethane, 4-hydroxydiphenylmethane, 4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol, 2-cyclopentylphenol and 4-cyclopentylphenol; and (b) (1R,2S,5R)-5-methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol; wherein a weight ratio of 3-isopropyl-6-methylbenzene-1,2-diol to (1R,2S,5R)-5-methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.13 to 1/0.83, a weight ratio of 2-hydroxydiphenylmethane to (1R,2S,5R)-5-methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.25 to 1/1.25, a weight ratio of 4-hydroxydiphenylmethane to (1R,2S,5R)-5-methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.19 to 1/1.25, a weight ratio of 4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol to (1R,2S,5R)-5-methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.19 to 1/1.25, a weight ratio of 2-cyclopentylphenol to (1R,2S,5R)-5-methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.06 to 1/0.17 or 1/0.25 to 1/2.5 and a weight ratio of 4-cyclopentylphenol to (1R,2S,5R)-5-methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.5 to 1/4.2. 4. A synergistic microbicidal composition comprising: (a) 4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol, 2-hydroxydiphenylmethane, 4-hydroxydiphenylmethane, 5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalen-1-ol, 5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalen-2-ol and 4-cyclopentylphenol; and (b) 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol; wherein a weight ratio of 4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.17 to 1/2.5, a weight ratio of 2-hydroxydiphenylmethane to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.04 to 1/0.15 or 1/0.2 to 1/2.5, a weight ratio of 4-hydroxydiphenylmethane to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.03 to 1/0.08 or 1/0.13 to 1/2.5, a weight ratio of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalen-1-ol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.19 to 1/2.5, a weight ratio of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalen-2-ol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/0.04 to 1/0.13 or 1/0.2 to 1/1.25 and a weight ratio of 4-cyclopentylphenol to 2-methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is from 1/1 to 1/3.1. 5. A method of disinfecting a surface comprising the steps of a. applying a composition according to any one of the preceding claims on to the surface; and b. removing the composition from the surface.
