Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A height adjustable floor system for a motor vehicle includes a load compartment floor having front and rear floor members that are pivotally connected together to permit relative rotation about a transverse axis. The load compartment cover can be positioned in upper and lower load carrying positions and be moved between these positions with the aid of a pair of first side supports each having a continuous groove defining a path to be followed by a pair of spaced apart guide members located on left and right sides of the front floor member near to a front end thereof. The rear floor member is used to facilitate the transitioning of the load compartment floor between the two load carrying positions and the first side supports are so configured that in the load carrying positions load is not transferred from the load compartment floor to the guide members.

What is claimed is: 1. A vehicle comprising: a load floor having pivotally engaged front and rear members; recumbent A-shaped grooves and side supports each disposed on opposing load-compartment sides; and a pair of guide members and a recess on each side of the front member wherein each pair of guide members slidably operate within the recumbent A-shaped grooves, respectively, and each recess traverses the side supports, respectively, to define upper and lower load-carrying positions of the load floor. 2. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein a load compartment of the vehicle includes opposing side trim panels, and wherein the recumbent A-shaped grooves are disposed proximate the opposing side trim panels, respectively, and wherein each pair of guide members are configured to move only horizontally within a portion of the recumbent A-shaped grooves. 3. The vehicle of claim 2 , further comprising: a pair of second side supports attached proximate the opposing side trim panels, respectively, wherein the pair of second side supports receives the load floor when it is in the upper load-carrying position, and wherein each of the pair of second side supports receives portions of the front and rear members. 4. The vehicle of claim 2 , further comprising: at least one rear support attached proximate at least one of the opposing side trim panels, wherein the at least one rear support receives a rear end of the rear member of the load floor when it is in the upper load carrying position. 5. A vehicle comprising: opposing walls of a load compartment each having an A-shaped groove and a side support; and a load-compartment floor having front and rear members coupled at a hinge, a pair of guide members and a recess on each longitudinal side of the front member, wherein the pairs of guide members slide within the A-shaped grooves and the recesses traverse the side supports to position the load-compartment floor between upper and lower load carrying positions, wherein the hinge rests on the side supports in the upper load carrying position and the hinge is positioned below each side support in the lower load carrying position. 6. The vehicle of claim 5 , wherein the front member rests upon the side supports in the upper load carrying position. 7. The vehicle of claim 5 , further comprising: at least one rear support attached to at least one of the opposing walls of the load compartment supporting a rear end of the rear member of the load-compartment floor in the upper load carrying position. 8. The vehicle of claim 5 , wherein the A-shaped grooves are a pair of horizontal channels defined within the opposing walls of the load compartment, respectively. 9. The vehicle of claim 7 , wherein each of the A-shaped grooves, the side supports and the at least one rear support are defined within the opposing walls of the load compartment. 10. The vehicle of claim 5 , wherein when the load compartment floor is in the upper load carrying position, the hinge is horizontally operable across the side supports to align each recess of the front member with the side supports, respectively, to manipulate the load compartment floor to the lower load carrying position. 11. The vehicle of claim 5 , wherein the A-shaped grooves, in combination with the pairs of guide members, facilitate re-positioning of the load compartment floor between the upper and lower load carrying positions by guiding a sliding motion of the front floor member of the load compartment floor from one of the upper and lower load carrying positions in a rearward direction, supporting a rotation of the front floor member about a transverse pivot axis of the load compartment floor and guiding the sliding motion of the front floor member of the load compartment floor in a forward direction into the other of the upper and lower load carrying position.
