A magazine for use with a fastening tool. The magazine can have a pusher assembly that can be retracted into a recess in the magazine to facilitate loading and reloading of fasteners. The pusher assembly can have a pusher assembly knob which can be reversibly latched to a detent to maintain the pusher assembly in a retracted state. The fastening tool can use a magazine which can be reloaded by a method which has a step of reversibly retracting the pusher assembly into the retracted state to allow for feeding one or more fasteners to the magazine.

We claim: 1. A magazine for a fastening device, comprising: a pusher assembly adapted to have an engaged state and a retracted state, the pusher assembly having a pusher assembly knob and a pusher; a recess into which the pusher is reversibly retracted at least in part when the pusher assembly knob is moved to reversibly retract the pusher to achieve the retracted state; a pusher guide track which guides the pusher, the pusher guide track configured to reversibly guide the pusher along at least a portion of a nail track to achieve the retracted state in which the pusher is configured to occupy said recess at least in part; and a detent adapted to reversibly maintain the pusher assembly in the retracted state; wherein the pusher assembly knob is adapted to reversibly latch to the detent; wherein the pusher is configured to occupy at least a portion of a nail track when the pusher assembly is in the engaged state, and wherein the pusher has a portion adapted to contact a fastener and to impart a force upon the fastener in a direction toward a nose end of the magazine when the pusher assembly is in the engaged state. 2. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the detent has a latch portion to which the pusher assembly knob is reversibly latched when the pusher assembly is in the retracted state. 3. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the detent has a detent base end to which the pusher assembly knob is reversibly latched when the pusher assembly is in the retracted state. 4. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the detent has a spring latch to which the pusher assembly knob is reversibly latched when the pusher assembly is in the retracted state. 5. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the pusher assembly comprises a spring located between the pusher assembly knob and the pusher, the spring allowing the pusher assembly knob to be tilted to achieve an unlatched state from a latched state. 6. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the pusher assembly is free of a compressive spring between the pusher assembly knob and a portion of the pusher. 7. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the pusher assembly knob can be pivoted to release the pusher assembly knob from the detent to achieve an unlatched state from a latched state. 8. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the pusher assembly further comprises a pivot about which a pivot stem can move to release the pusher assembly knob from the detent to achieve an unlatched state from a latched state. 9. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the pusher assembly knob has a knob clearance of 0.05 mm or greater when the pusher assembly is in an engaged state. 10. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein a guide frame comprises the detent. 11. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the detent is located proximate to a pusher assembly guide path. 12. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , wherein the pusher assembly is biased by a constant force spring. 13. The magazine for a fastening device according to claim 1 , in which the fastening tool is a nailer and the fastener is a nail. 14. A fastening device, comprising: a nosepiece adapted to receive a fastener from a magazine; a power source adapted to power a fastener driving mechanism to drive the fastener into a workpiece when triggered; a pusher assembly adapted to have an engaged state and a retracted state, the pusher assembly having a pusher assembly knob and a pusher; a pusher guide track which guides the pusher along at least a portion of the nail track, the pusher guide track configured to reversibly guide the pusher to achieve the retracted state in which the pusher is configured to occupy said recess at least in part; a recess into which the pusher is reversibly retracted at least in part when the pusher assembly knob is moved to reversibly retract the pusher to achieve the retracted state; a detent adapted to reversibly maintain the pusher assembly in the retracted state; wherein the pusher is configured to occupy at least a portion of a nail track when the pusher assembly is in the engaged state; and wherein the pusher has a portion adapted to contact a fastener and to impart a force upon the fastener in a direction toward the nosepiece when the pusher assembly is in the engaged state. 15. The fastening device according to claim 14 , wherein the detent has a latch to which the pusher assembly knob is reversibly latched when the pusher is in the retracted state. 16. The fastening device according to claim 15 , wherein the latch comprises a spring latch. 17. The fastening device according to claim 14 , wherein the fastening tool is a nailer and the fastener is a nail.
